25.01.2022 Last Thursday we saw a wonderful event held for International Peace Day in the neighbourhood of Norlane. Organised in collaboration by 9 community groups, hosted in the wonderful community garden at Norlane Community Centre, over 60 people attended to celebrate peace in our lives, in our neighbourhood and in the world. From the moment we were welcomed to Wathaurong country by Nikki and Norm, you could feel the inspiring and energising community spirit that is alive and well... in the neighbourhood of Norlane. There were fantastic performances by the Karenni Community, Cloverdale Singers and local group Choppy Churros. The Rotary Club of Corio Bay generously hosted a free BBQ. People created colorful peace cranes and the kids played one of the most peaceful games of cricket you'll ever see...well...kind of :) The event was MC'd by Hannah Reeves from Urban Seed. And people took photos with Norlane's very first Peace Pole, which will be planted in a nearby park soon and serve as a local symbol, a sign, that reminds us of the ways of peace. Former refugee Moshtagh Heirdari gave an inspiring and powerful speech on peace..."By focusing not on what separates us but what binds us together as a single Geelong family, By opening our hearts, joining hands and reaching out to people we can move closer to obtaining peace, respect, safety, and dignity for all". In Norlane and in our world it is important now more than ever that we continue to promote peace in our lives, our communities and neighbourhoods. It is encouraging to find ways we can commit to doing no harm to ourselves or one another, to encourage the learning of peaceful and nonviolent methods to transform all types of conflict and acknowledge that systematic forms of violence such as poverty affect all of our lives. Thank you to all who helped organise and attend this great peace day community event. Photography by Rachel Morris

23.01.2022 Wonderful to see another Peoples Pantry Food Cooperative popping up! It was great to be able to share some of our experiences operating this innovative food redistribution program with our friends from Bendigo and inspire them as we were inspired by our friends from the Peoples Pantry in Newmarket.

20.01.2022 Access to great, healthy and nourishing food is integral to creating sustainable and flourishing community in our neighbourhood of Norlane. We were very excited to be able to host the launch of the Feed Geelong campaign a few weeks ago at Urban Seed Norlane. An initiative of Give Where You Live, this campaign seeks to raise funds to enable local organisations to make such access to good food possible. It is inspiring to see so many people in the Geelong region committed to food security for all. If you would like to support this great initiative and help Feed Geelong, head to feedgeelong.org.au

17.01.2022 A wonderful way to finish up the year at our annual Christmas Eve Neighbourhood Lunch. 120 neighbours gathered and cooked and celebrated together. Kids fun, face painting, games, local music performing and heaps more. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible. ... It’s truly a beautiful community and neighbourhood in which we live. Merry Christmas.

16.01.2022 Food gathered, gleaned and organised by The Longroom Community. Ready to redistribute amongst the neighbourhood at tonight’s neighbourhood dinner.

15.01.2022 From the big overarching stories that dominate our political landscapes to grounded cooperative and participatory based neighbourhood initiatives, this article has a lot of important things to say about how we get out of 'this' mess and create a future where everyone is cared for and everyone has enough. "By reviving community, built around the places in which we live, and by anchoring ourselves, our politics and parts of our economy in the life of this community, we can restore the best aspects of our nature"

13.01.2022 Hi friends. We are hosting our annual Christmas Eve Lunch in Norlane for over 100 people and looking for a few extra hands to assist us the day before and on the day. On Saturday we will be doing some Christmas baking and wrapping presents for kids from 1pm. On Sunday, Christmas Eve will be needing a few hands in the kitchen from 9am-12 and also packup at 2pm. ... If you can assist us, please let us know. Thanks heaps.
