25.01.2022 An exciting day time for pressing our Shiraz from the Hilltops! There are five distinct stages involved in the journey from grape to bottle: harvesting, crushing and pressing, fermentation, clarification and ageing and bottling. Over the last two weeks, our visitors have joined in on our annual harvest grape stomp & helped us crush our grapes! The crush literally gets a grapes juices flowing and is the first step in the process that turns fresh, delicate fru...it into delicious, shelf-stable wine. Once the wine has fermented it is then time to remove all the solids. This process separates the grape juice from the fibre and other solids that make up a berry. To get the most out of your stomping experience, follow these three tips:... Wear the Proper Clothes! With all the squishing and stomping, you’re bound to find yourself covered in grape juice before long. Grapes will stain fabric, so be prepared for a mess. You’ll also want to make sure your clothes don’t impede your stomping technique, so wear something comfortable. Keep a Steady Stomping Rhythm! Crushing a vat full of grapes is a fun leg day workout, but it is still no easy task. The best method is to keep a steady rhythm and focus on covering as much surface area as you can. Stomping with both feet is the traditional way but experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you. Bring Your Sense of Humour! It’s pretty hard to take yourself seriously when you’re knee deep in half-crushed grapes So have fun with it!
