25.01.2022 RIP Grant Alexander McCracken affectionately known as the #fitzroypirate or #kingoffitzroy. I had the pleasure of working with Grant and his trips to the studio were always entertaining. He claimed to be a descendant of Alexander McCracken the beer brewer and sportsman born in 1846 (passed in 1915) and he may we’ll have been. Grant wore a McCrackens Brewery badge on his belt (shown here) with pride. We tried the new McCrackens brew together and he had a few sips, shrugged his shoulders and said beer is beer. This poet said many things I’ll never forget and Fitzy won’t be the same without him. Slancha Va! . #ripfitzypirate #portrait

24.01.2022 Some recent brand work for Jenna Carroll - Health Alchemist. Jenna is a Naturopath & Nutritionist operating near Sydney’s Northern beaches.... Jenna being a natural alchemist wanted to experiment with blending elements of #mystical / #magical / #traditional / #modern and #science. We identified 3 brand pillars of #Health, #Transformation and #Vitality. Each of these areas although seperate studies in themselves, combine to form one holistic vision that Jenna brings to her practice. Through the design process we found #naturalgeometry and #symmetry in the shapes of H (Health), A (Alchemist), T (Transformation) and V (Vitality). A #system_of_symbols using these letterforms started to emerge. We followed the path and the brand came to life. . www.healthalchemist.com.au

01.01.2022 It’s done - issue #412 of @surfingworld mag with @jon_frank_ and @seano888. It’s been a while since I’ve had anything printed so I kinda nerded out over the smell of the ink and the way the mag felt to flick through in my hands - #chills. Now the worlds longest running surf mag (Since 1962), the guys have kept the dream alive by continuing on a long running legacy against all odds in 2020. With @surfer_magazine closing it’s doors and brands cutting budgets left right and cent...re, the lights were potentially fading. Jonny and Seano are running SW more as a social enterprise than a business and only these guys could pull that off. The overall purpose of the mag is best summed up by Sean in the intro but in a nutshell it aims to recreate a sense of space and time that the old SW mags had, but through a modern lens. The higher purpose of the mag provides a platform for #environmental groups, #community groups, #mentalhealth groups, solo #shapers, mum-and-dad surf shops, #culturalprojects and more, to be given a space to be heard. This is achieved through pages donated by partner brands - it’s pure genius. For the design nerds - some design elements are recycled from original issues of the 60’s, some printing plates have been shifted a few mm to simulate misregistration, some type has been hand cut / hand made and slightly not perfect - in fact a lot of it isn’t quite perfect - I guess that’s why they came to me See anything in the new logo?
