22.01.2022 The City Nature Challenge is underway, and we can participate by taking pics of nature whilst exercising and still observing the distancing rules, or taking pics from home. We have four days in which to record as many species as possible - right now Sydney already has 147 observations. See https://citynaturechallenge.org/collective-results-2020/

22.01.2022 There is free online webinar tonight about grey nurse sharks. Register for access.

18.01.2022 Watch with sound. This is Bondi on Friday morning. We have been doing a bit of snorkelling recently because its easier to find and stay with the action. Very grateful is see this type of activity off Sydneys most famous beach.

17.01.2022 Good luck today, slug hunters!! May you find them in abundance Its not too late to register, the census is still on tomorrow. Night dives are seriously encouraged as we often find different species after dark than during day time. John Turnbull (Marine Explorer) has generously donated a copy of Underwater Sydney as a prize for most species found. The book can also be purchased from CSIRO website: https://www.publish.csiro.au/book/7868/ https://www.urgdiveclub.org.au/5th-sydney-sea-slug-census/

15.01.2022 Great diving today off the URG boat. Our disappointment at finding no weedies on one site was countered by finding six weedies at a new site, which we have named Dragons Den! With Kris Okeeffe John Swift Joshua Moloney John Turnbull Erik and Fiona https://flic.kr/p/2hnnFGZ

15.01.2022 First time back in the water in AGES. Great two dives - especially the second where the highlight was me making a new bestie of a Crimson Banded Wrasse. Nick an...d Martin think he didnt like me, but I think it was love. Video to follow where he repeatedly kisses my mask and circles me. Also found first sea spider ever. Creepier in the photo than looked in real life. See more

14.01.2022 Oh this is too fantastic

10.01.2022 Great viz today for some exercise - keeping to the distancing rules is easy underwater

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, hope you are all having a great holiday season. For those that missed the last URG general meeting at the beginning of December, I did a presentation and showed this video about a trip myself and Charlie did to Komodo with Dive Respect Protect. We had Jamie dial in on zoom from Malaysia who runs these trips to talk to members about sustainable tourism and voting with your dollars. A number of people have asked me how to get in touch with DRP because his next Komodo trip is in March 2020. His details are at this website: https://drpdivetours.com/

10.01.2022 Apparently were on ABC 702 (radio and Listen app) in a few mintues, at 10:40, talking about using citizen science data and the Underwater Research Group

09.01.2022 Wonderful article on URG, citizen science and the importance of historical data: https://www.abc.net.au//diary-of-sydney-early-sc/11645044

08.01.2022 Hey URG members, Dive Respect Protect has last minute spots available for their 15-21 March Komodo trip and are offering them at almost HALF PRICE! USD1250 for an all inclusive 7 day live-aboard is a sensational steal. DRP makes a special effort to include a coral propagation course in their package and an educational program to accompany epic diving in the national park. I just checked SkyScanner and return flights for these dates are $680. Read this blog post I wrote to find out what a trip with them is like. To get in touch go to drpdivetours.com https://www.aussiebubbles.com.au//komodo-liveaboard-trip-w

02.01.2022 Today we braved the rain and swell to start documenting the suspected wasting disease in the URG coral at Bare Island. Fortunately the disease is only in the small patch of the coral so far - the main colony appears unaffected at present. w Lou De Beuzeville Martin Puchert Joshua Moloney Kathy Giles Kris Okeeffe John Turnbull

02.01.2022 PLEASE READ: we have decided to open up (what used to be) our URG Financial Members Facebook Group to all like-minded curious ocean loving souls. The reason we have done this is because FB groups offer a much more collaborative platform for sharing information and building a community. We will be retiring this page soon, so please join us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/urgnsw/ We encourage you all to ask questions, share knowledge, tips and photos of recent dives and hopefully join us as a member of the club.

02.01.2022 URG are ramping up our Reef Life Survey Foundation (RLS) activities for 2020, as part of #LapofAus... several surveys already completed and plans for more surveys in Sydney and Jervis Bay over the next few months. Check out this short video from our surveys yesterday at Fairlight... https://vimeo.com/382726079
