25.01.2022 It's been great getting back to sword and buckler. What better way to end a lesson than a few rounds of King of the Hill!

24.01.2022 "Learning defense improves the attack. If the lion knows how the prey can escape, itll capture it in a much more precise way" - Rilion Gracie

24.01.2022 Historical evidence of pike combat - thanks to the ever-comical Alex Tawns. HEMA is super serious stuff, people.

23.01.2022 With so many new students joining Sword and Buckler training on Tuesday nights, it's been great to see our senior students taking time out of their drills to teach the newbies things like footwork, hand position and of course; how to safely stab your opponent in the neck - Lignitzer style

22.01.2022 August was a huge month at UMHA with the graduation of the winter longsword intake and one of our biggest grading session. Congratulations to Dan, Luke and Matt for the successful grading to the rank of Journeyman and Jacinta, Josh and Matt (again!) to the rank of Fighter.

22.01.2022 We recently held our annual sword tournament and saw some great fights across the day. If you didn't make it down to check it out in the flesh, you can see the footage on one of our member's youtube channels here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist

16.01.2022 Our longsword tournament is always our biggest one of the year. From filming to scoring & timekeeping, judging, reffing, getting the fighters ready and in place for their next bout (affectionately known as runners because that's what they do all day) our wonderful medics and of course; the people who set the entire day up (hall hire, rule sets, trophies & medals) we cannot run tournaments without you! Thank you for all your help guys! Our school is richer because of the time you give

10.01.2022 Last night we held a grading session, and had 5 candidates challenging for higher ranks. After a gruelling 90 minute theoretical and practical assessment of their knowledge and skills, all 5 prevailed and successfully attained their next rank. Ursa Major welcomes Jacinta, Joshua, and Matt to the rank of Fighter; and Luke and Daniel to the rank of Journeyman. Please join us in congratulating Jacinta, Joshua, Matt, Luke, and Daniel - it was a great show of confidence and capability, and these members have demonstrated their commitment to their art.

09.01.2022 Being a good training partner is really important. So here's a little thank you to all those who don't mind slowing a technique down until it makes sense, who let us know when and what we did wrong, for passing on their knowledge so we learn and most importantly - for coming to training so we can hit each other with swords!!

09.01.2022 It's a great morning to be holding a sword tournament. We have 6 fighters competing for the UMHA sword trophy, who is going to take this bad boy home?
