24.01.2022 And that's a wrap! The last meeting of the USASA 2020 Student Board. We've been proud to lead this organisation through one of the toughest years in higher ed history, and we've managed to place the association in a strong position for 2021 despite the challenges this year has thrown at us.... This board has been a proud, unapologetic voice for students this year, and achieved so much. Thankyou for your support this year, and we can't wait to see what the new board in 2021 gets up to!
17.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT from USASA Student President, Noah Beckmann After working with the University during COVID, one of the biggest points that your USASA Repre...sentatives have made is around the fees that International Students pay, and just how high they are. It’s a point that we hear repeatedly, and we understand the financial stress that it causes. The University has just announced that next year there will be no increase to tuition fees. You will only have to pay at the rate set in 2020, and this will be automatically applied to you. We’re still pushing for more additional supports such as an extension to the Student Hardship Fund and the International Student Support Package and supports for students who can’t get home over summer, but this is a great step towards helping international students deal with the massive burden of university fees. South Australian universities, students and staff oppose this rotten bill, so why don’t you Rebekha Sharkie MP Senator Stirling Griff #FundUniFairly #blockthebill #MayoDeservesBetter
10.01.2022 Disgraceful footage of an international worker being assaulted at work have surfaced this week, after she asked to be paid wages that she was owed for working at FunTea near the Central Markets International students are often forgotten in the fight for worker's rights, and it's more important now than ever to remain conscious of the rampant discrimination and wage theft that they face across the country. Join members of the USASA Board and other student bodies at 12:00pm at... the FunTea store in saying that we will not stand for this sort of behaviour towards our international student cohort! Noah Beckmann - USASA President
10.01.2022 Yesterday, USASA President Noah Beckmann and National Union of Students Welfare Officer Ali Amin met with Senator Rex Patrick to discuss the Government's proposed Job Ready Graduates Package. This legislation has enshrined within it a cut to higher education funding. Under this damaging legislation, some courses will see increases in cost of 113%, and the "student protection measures" proposed in the bill could see under-performing students permanently locked out of an education. USASA thanks the NUS National Union of Students for fighting against this bill, and thanks Senator Patrick for standing up for the interests of students in South Australia by coming out against this bill.
08.01.2022 The USASA Student Board stands in solidarity with student workers, particularly our international student workers, who so often face exploitation.
