25.01.2022 Mere months after the bush fire crisis, Scott Morrison has committed to expanding the fossil fuel industry that lit those fires, launching the "gas-led recovery". Santos's destructive $3.6 billion Narrabri coal seam gas project has just been approved! Australia is already among the world’s biggest gas producers and is the biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas77.5 million tonnes of it last year, worth $50.5 billion. Far from some green, cheap fuel, studies everywhere show... that the potent methane emissions leaked in the mining and transportation of gas can be just as bad or worse than for coal. Both Liberal and Labor back the gas plan, despite the fact that two in three people in Australia prefer renewables and oppose a gas-led recovery, according to the 2020 Climate of the Nation report. UNSW isn't innocent either. UNSW is partners with Santos, the gas and oil corporation behind the Narrabri gas fields! In May this year, the Liberal Govt gifted UNSW's Dr Stuart Clark ~$440,000 to research and build new software for gas exploration for Santos' use both onshore and offshore. Our university should not be run like a corporate business. We are going to have to fight university management and the government to put our planet over their profits. That's why Uni Students for Climate Justice are dedicated to fighting to shut down the fossil fuel industry. We need to keep alive the climate movement. Join this Speakout against Scomo's Gas Plan: Cut UNSW's ties to Santos in week 9 to make your voice heard. We'll be meeting at UNSW's Library Lawns on Tuesday, November 10 at 1pm. Contact our page if you want to get involved and help promote the speakout! https://www.facebook.com/events/3490093331073154

23.01.2022 It speaks volumes about the ALP that this corporate rat, who's been playing the role of chief spokesperson for the fossil fuel bosses even before he ditches his parliamentary career and goes to work for them directly, has been on the front bench for so long. The debate in the ALP isnt about whether they should continue with fossil fuels or not, but about how open they want to be about it. Like the Liberals, the ALP don't care about "jobs" or workers, but about the profitable exports for Australian capitalism. There's less than 1% of jobs in minjng. No matter who's in government, we'll have to keep fighting.

23.01.2022 Raising hell today at the place that hosts one of the biggest climate criminals in the world - Australia's very own corporation specialising in coal, Glencore! Glencore's riches were founded on mass environmental and human devastation, from apartheid South Africa and Israel to the mines of Colombia and Australia. The Glencore's, Scott Morrisons and Biden's of the world are part of the problem. The fight is up to all of us. To save the planet, the reality is we need to abolish the fossil fuel industry and the system it profits. Get involved with the radicals of the climate movement -USCJ- to be part of the fight back we need. Contact us via our page!

19.01.2022 Join the Uni Students for Climate Justice contingent to the February 20 protest Climate Jobs and Justice Now! No Narrabri Project, No Gas-Fired Recovery! The climate crisis is upon us. In 2018 fossil fuels were responsible for 1 in 5 deaths! We're already facing megapfires, rising waters and extreme weather events that are displacing millions of climate refugees. Morrison has announced a 'gas-fired recovery' plan which would see new fracking projects and gas pipelines tear u...p Indigenous land & destroy the environment in the name of profit. The Australian politicians and the capitalist class are determined to double down on a project of massively expanding fracking, continuing with the Adani coal mine & are subsidising coal, gas and oil. We need to build a mass, disruptive fightback. Join the USCJ contingent at the Feb 20 rally We're meeting at the top of Martin Place from 12:45 (look out for the big green USCJ banner)!!

16.01.2022 The Government’s gas-fired recovery plan relies heavily on the deceptively-called "natural gas". The plan gifts the fossil fuel industry subsidies that over 52% of Australians oppose. Far from some green energy source, fracking and coal seam gas are notoriously more pollutant. While it's claimed this is about replacing coal, the fact more funding is still going into new coal mines from NSW to QLD and the lack of even a renewables target, says otherwise. This is about greenw...ashing the profitable *expansion* of fossil fuels. It isn't about helping workers either - the real number of jobs in gas mining is 0.2%, or 28,600 people according to the Australia Institute. Data from August shows it maybe be even less, at 18,000 for oil and gas extraction! We refuse to accept any of the bullshit from the Government, Liberal and Labor alike. All out for our Speakout against Scomo's Gas Plan: Cut UNSW's ties to Santos! tomorrow!! Meeting at the library lawns at 1pm.

13.01.2022 While politicians around the world pretend to do something about the climate catastrophe by agreeing to some far off 2050 targets of the Paris Agreement, we all know that we need urgent and drastic action to halt the climate catastrophe that is just around the corner. Join Uni Students For Climate Justice for the next Global Day of Action called by Greta Thunberg tomorrow! The rally will be at 5:30pm tomorrow, at Hyde Park, near the Archibald Fountain!

13.01.2022 The concept of the "carbon footprint" and similar individual solutions for climate action have always been a sham, useful to let the system off the hook. It says a lot that the term "carbon footprint" was first promoted in 2000 by British Petroleum (BP), the second largest private oil company in the world, with 18,700+ gas and service stations worldwide! Fossil fuel corporations and the system they profit are part of the problem, not the solution; we need to abolish them to save the planet!

12.01.2022 Exactly. While politicians from Liberal to Labor debate over whether or not to commit to any far-off net zero (not real zero) emissions targets, Greta here says it like it is - we need less fake promises, more climate action. That means fighting to shut down the fossil fuel industry. The politicians and fossil fuel giants, from Exxon Mobil to BP, have known the science for decades now. They've chosen not to act, because for them, profits and competition come before humanity and the planet. Here's to more climate protests and real action in 2021, get in touch to join us! https://twitter.com/GretaThunbe/status/1354853240333086721

11.01.2022 A massive 83% of Australians want to see coal-fired power stations gone and 74% care about climate change, the highest stat since 2012. 2/3 of voters prefer renewables to gas. This is a huge indictment on Liberal as well as Labor who say they back coal mining, gas and oil extraction because they're listening to workers who want jobs. That's all bullshit - profits is what they're after. If we actually lived in a democracy we'd be moving to shut down the fossil fuel industry an...d transitioning fully to renewable energy. Real change will come from ordinary people protesting, not from the rich and powerful. Come along to our Speakout against Scomo's Gas Plan: Cut UNSW's ties to Santos! to take a stand for climate justice at UNSW.

09.01.2022 Australia has $56bn worth of gas pipelines in development that, if all built, would be expected to allow pumping of greenhouse gases equivalent to 33 coal-fired power stations, an analysis has found. The gas-led recovery was never about a renewable transition! Scomo is greenwashing gas, which is as destructive as coal, as he expands coal and oil too. We can't let Governments and fossil fuel giants like Origin Energy and BP get away with greenwashing themselves with tech plans, climate accords and far off 2050 net zero (not real) targets.

06.01.2022 Climate change is already upon us. The summer of 2019-2020 saw a horrific, unprecedented fire season in Australia. In Texas right now, people are freezing to death in their own homes as the state experiences a freakish cold snap. Yet fossil fuel companies continue to dig up coal and gas for profit with impunity. Scott Morrison is leading us into further climate catastrophe with his government's gas led recovery, which will see pipelines built creating emissions equivalent to ...33 extra coal-fired power stations! We need action on climate change yesterday. That's why we need to protest these climate criminals and demand an end to the fossil fuel industry! Join Uni Students For Climate Justice for an occupation of one of these climate criminal's head quarters in Sydney. Location a secret so we can pay them a surprise visit ;) We will be linking up with USCJ activists from MQ, USYD and UTS! UNSW people meeting at 1:30pm, UNSW High St lightrail stop this Friday, March 5!

03.01.2022 Yet more evidence that we need to fight to abolish fossil fuels. Fossil fuels caused 8.7m deaths globally in 2018. Pollution from power plants, vehicles and other sources accounted for one in five of all deaths that year! This is mostly working class people and the poorest and most oppressed in society dying from air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels and the effects like fires. Anything less than shutting down fossil fuels is a disaster for ordinary people. People an...d our planet should not come before profit. Come along to our meeting in week 1 if you want to join the radicals of the climate movement Get involved with Uni Students for Climate Justice: banner paint for Feb 20 climate protest!

03.01.2022 "U.S. power plants are going to consume 16% more coal this year than in 2020, and then another 3% in 2022, the Energy Information Administration said last week. China and India, which together account for almost two-thirds of demand, have no plans to cut back in the near term." We are hurtling towards climate collapse with no stop in sight. The fight is up to us! March with the radicals of the climate movement this this Friday for the Global Day of Climate Action: Uni Student Contingent - meeting at UNSW Hight street at 4:45pm to head to the central action in the city!

02.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be rallying on campus to Speakout against Scomo's Gas Plan: Cut UNSW's ties to Santos! UNSW management have kept their ties to the expansion of the gas industry on the down-low, but we refuse to let them get away with using our education to profit from climate destruction. UNSW is partners with Santos, the gas and oil corporation behind the Narrabri gas fields! In May this year, the Liberal Govt gifted UNSW's Dr Stuart Clark ~$440,000 to research and build n...ew software for gas exploration for Santos' use both onshore and offshore. This is outrageous. Our university should not be run like a corporate business. We are going to have to fight university management and the government to put our planet over their profits. That's why Uni Students for Climate Justice are dedicated to fighting to shut down the fossil fuel industry. Join us tomorrow at the Library lawns at 1pm to help us raise some noise for management and keep alive the climate movement.

01.01.2022 Ready for our Speakout against Scomo's Gas Plan: Cut UNSW's ties to Santos! soon at 1pm! Come by the library lawns to get involved with Uni Students for Climate Justice at Unsw in the fight to shut down fossil fuels.
