25.01.2022 The once-in-a-decade storm has left about 62,000 WA homes without power all across the state. Damaging winds and debris, like that pictured, show the danger public sector energy workers face when supporting the state's recovery from these powerful storms. Please spare a thought for the energy workers that look out for us, and let's look out for them by keeping Western Power in public hands!... 25.01.2022 WA needs more jobs, not higher bills, but that’s the danger of privatisation. Publicly owned services or assets are operated for the community, but private companies are operated in the interests of shareholders. When they need to boost profit, private companies put up their prices, while cutting jobs and services. Thank you Minister Paul Papalia CSC MLA for saying no to this and signing our anti-privatisation pledge.... Join the campaign by signing the petition to keep our public assets and services in public hands: www.useyourpower.com.au.
25.01.2022 The new Western Power Pinjarra Depot means: Faster emergency response times Fit-for-purpose facility for the Peel region 180 construction jobs... By keeping Western Power in public hands, its focus can stay on providing better services to WA customers; not profits.
24.01.2022 Last night's fierce storm has seen hundreds of calls to emergency services and left 55,000 homes without power -- from Perth down to Albany. Please spare a thought for the public sector energy workers who face dangerous, windy and wet working conditions at times like these. These workers look out for us in the most difficult times. Let's look out for them and keep Western Power in public hands!
24.01.2022 A big shout out to our public school teachers, education assistants, administrators, cleaners and gardeners as they return to school today. Your commitment to our kids and community is greatly appreciated.
23.01.2022 Yesterday, the Liberal Party released their first election ad to introduce Liza Harvey with three things we might not know about her. Here are three more things you should know:
21.01.2022 Like many West Australians, energy workers went above and beyond during the COVID-19 lockdown to keep our States lights on. Danielle, who is a project support officer worked remotely for three months to ensure she could still do her job and keep the community safe.
20.01.2022 Earlier this month, the Western Australian government released its Distributed Energy Resources (DER) roadmap. Bill Johnston, the WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Energy and Industrial Relations; spoke about opportunities.
19.01.2022 Compare the pair: two coal-fired power stations, one on each side of the country, announce they will shut down in the near future. One announcement plunges the entire east coast power system into chaos and has federal ministers lobbying hard to extend the operational life of the plant. The other is announced with a clear plan for the future and measures to ensure the energy system's security throughout the process. ... Can you guess which of these is privatised and which of these in a publicly-owned system?
18.01.2022 Liza Harvey has committed the WA Liberals to running back their 2017 election promise to build Roe 8. What other policies are being revived for the next state election?
18.01.2022 This is what private companies do: slash staff numbers, cut corners, then put their hand out for help. Its taxpayers that lose out. We can never let this happen in WA. Read more here: https://www.abc.net.au//ausgrid-accused-of-unders/11962908
17.01.2022 There are lots of people going above and beyond during this COVID-19 outbreak, but we want to give a special shout-out to the people working in our publicly owned energy utilities: Western Power, Synergy and Horizon Power. These people are, literally, keeping the lights on. Ensuring we have a reliable supply of electricity during times of crisis enables other essential services, such as health and education, to care for our community. ... It enables industry to keep our economy ticking over. And it powers households, where many of us are isolating, working or not. So, from of all of us, thank you to our publicly owned energy sector workers who are powering the COVID-19 response across the community.
16.01.2022 Tens of thousands of dollars the community will save on its power bills as a result of the solar, (it) can be invested back into the community to benefit residents - Bidyadanga CEO, Tania Baxter. Horizon Power is investing in renewable technology to keep power bills as low as possible and provide a long-term investment security for remote areas of Western Australia. Keeping our energy provider in public hands means decisions are made for the good of customers and the State, not shareholders looking to profit.
16.01.2022 A WIN FOR WORKERS! The Australian Services Union (ASU) has been in discussions with Synergy since September 2018 about just transition. Now we are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Synergy, the WA State Government and WA’s energy unions to support workers at Muja Power Station in Collie. An agreement like this wouldn't be possible if our WA electricity utilities weren't in public hands. Change in the energy industry is inevitable, but having publicly owned electricity providers enables the WA State Government to plan for the future and ensure workers are supported.
14.01.2022 Keeping Western Power in public hands means they make the best decisions for the West Australian community, not overseas owners. By launching the Tesla PowerBank battery storage system in Ellenbrook, Western Power is helping customers save money and helping our system move to renewable energy.
14.01.2022 Encouraging news this week, with Treasurer Ben Wyatt committing to a power price freeze in the next State Budget. Report in The Sunday Times.
13.01.2022 Georgia is an administration officer who has been working in the industry for six years. Energy workers ensure essential services including health and education have a reliable supply of electricity during times of crisis. Keeping West Australian electricity assets in public hands will ensure jobs just like Georgias can be secure for the future.
12.01.2022 How many apprentices did Western Power hire during 2016, the last full year of the last Liberal state government? The year they were gearing Western Power up for sale.
12.01.2022 Western Power is set to install up to 6,000 stand-alone renewable power systems across the Wheatbelt. Because Western Power is in public hands, the state government can lead the way on energy reform and replace old poles and wires with renewables. Find out what's changed here: https://www.abc.net.au//new-laws-trigger-wheatbel/12176494"
12.01.2022 Thats right, 1.3 million Victorians are bracing for blackouts this summer. A new report warns that there is a significant risk of outages even more than in recent years due to a lack of power supply. The failure of private energy operators has put Victorians at the mercy of the Australian summer. We must never let that happen here in WA.... 11.01.2022 Thank you to Minister Michelle Roberts MLA - Member for Midland for using your power to oppose privatisation. We’ve been asking every Member of Parliament to sign the anti-privatisation pledge because we know that privatisation leaves WA households worse off. Join the campaign and sign our petition to keep publicly owned assets in public hands here: www.useyourpower.com.au.

09.01.2022 While Canberra's inaction on energy policy places the east coast under threat this summer, WA retains its major advantage over the rest of the country. We own our power system. We own our natural gas. We can determine our own pathway to delivering efficient, low-cost and low-emission power for all Western Australians.
08.01.2022 With privatisation comes one guarantee prices go up. That’s because private companies owe it to their shareholders to make more money, so they push up the prices while cutting as many costs as they can, like jobs and maintenance. On the other hand, public services and assets have a mandate to continue delivering for the community, while keeping the cost of essential services down. We must keep our public services in public hands, which is why we’ve been asking every Member ...of Parliament to sign the anti-privatisation pledge. A big thank you to Minister John Quigley for being the latest MP to get on board! Join the campaign and sign our petition by clicking here: www.useyourpower.com.au.

Keeping electricity in the publics hands will ensure people have access to power when its required.
06.01.2022 Thank all our hard-working public sector and frontline workers. Whether it's the firefighters keeping us safe over summer, the nurses keeping us healthy, the energy workers keeping the lights on, or the local government workers keeping our communities going: public service workers are seeing us all through this crisis and deserve our thanks. 06.01.2022 The nations top public servant has given the federal government a spray on his way out the door over inaction on energy policy leading to higher energy prices. Until we have a sensible set of policies that can be sustained in the long run, then we will have prices above what we need to have." Privatising the energy industry has left the eastern states in a stalemate. We must keep WA power in WA hands. #UseYourPower

02.01.2022 Public assets belong in public hands. Thank you Minister David Templeman MLA for signing the pledge against privatising WA’s public assets and services! It’s common knowledge that privatising public assets and services leads to higher prices, cuts to services and fewer jobs because companies have to make a profit. 01.01.2022 Mass blackout: On Friday night, 100,000 homes across Western Australia suddenly went dark, due to an incident at a privately owned power generator in Kwinana. Within an hour Western Power had restored electricity to most homes. When privatised services fail, we know we can rely on our publicly-owned utilities for energy security. This is why we need to keep Western Power in public hands.
