24.01.2022 We’re really proud of this one at City of Newcastle! As a part of our 2019/20 Budget we will invest more than $2.5 million to fund 44 roles targeted at recent u...niversity graduates and undergraduates, aspiring trainees and apprentices. As an emerging global City investing heavily in new technologies, we are putting a large focus on the recruitment of young people who can demonstrate the type of enthusiastic, innovative and creative qualities we require to help guide and lead our City’s future. A big shout out to the United Services Union - USU for welcoming this news as a strong commitment to providing young Novocastrians with exciting career opportunities in local government. http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au//City-budget-targets-young

21.01.2022 Another day, another humiliating IT failure for the Turnbull government, this time forced into scrapping the Australian Apprentice Management System project, af...ter five years, and according to reports, $20 million wasted. This mob are more worried about their own jobs than the public interest. It is time for them to go. Like and share if you agree. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//7b6c666f2d51b23bed8a5e1 See more

21.01.2022 In support of the Stop TAFE cuts campaign and in preparations for National TAFE Day on 19th June, which is a day to celebrate the achievements of our national TAFE system, and it provides a chance for us to remind politicians about the precarious state that the TAFE system is currently in across the country as a result of reforms, budget cuts, and the activities of private for-profit providers.

18.01.2022 Important news from our friends at the @youngworkerscentre, lets organise to ensure this is implemented Australia wide to prevent future exploitation of younger workers!

13.01.2022 Georgia and I have been together for just over 2 years. We live in Annandale with our housemate, Bella, and the light of our lives, Zali the pug. We have an aspirational bottle of champagne sitting in the cupboard, given to us by a dear friend, which is put aside for the day that we are finally afforded marriage equality. We are the lucky ones who have the love and support of people around us to know that our lives are just as worthy, and that our happiness is valid. We are l...ucky enough to live in an area where people won't stare or spit at us for holding hands on the street. I am scared about what the plebiscite will do to those who aren't so fortunate - the people who remain in the closet for fear of what their family and friends will say, or for fear for their safety. Contrary to what Lyle Shelton and the Australian Christian Lobby say, giving public money to the 'No' campaign isn't about 'levelling the playing field' - it's about funding the creation of materials that will tell young, vulnerable LGBTIQ Australians that their lives are somehow less legitimate, if not worthless and abhorrent. This won't be a reasonable debate about the law. This will be a barrage of sinister, deep-seated hatred thrown at people who are already far more likely to experience alienation, homelessness and mental illness. We don't need a public vote and all that comes with it - we need our parliamentarians to do their job and make us equal before the law. - Olivia Ronan, United Services Union - USU member. See more

11.01.2022 At the USU we believe in apprentices and trainees. We believe their contribution is vital to our future and our local communities. We also have faith in the wor...kers who mentor them. In recognition of the importance of apprentices and trainees in the workforce and their mentors, the USU New Gen committee will be awarding a USU member (Apprentice or trainee) and a USU workplace mentor, with a special recognition award in 2018! 04.01.2022 The dog's breakfast in regards to council mergers continues, the residents and communities deserve better!! All Council elections should have been held this September 10 with a referendum on council amalgamations. Instead what we have is a circus, with Mr Baird as the ring master and Mr Toole as the clown (just take a look at the transcript of Mr Toole's performance in the budget estimates hearing). All the proposed council amalgamations will fail and not deliver on the so called benefits to the community. This is another case of history repeating itself and academic literature proves this to be true and we have the situation such as what is unfolding in the inner west council across this state.

03.01.2022 Well Done Samantha on being this year's Winner!
