23.01.2022 Bush Medicine by Patsy Long Kemarre 90cm x 90cm, $1449, Free shipping. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and shipped with love and care. There are many different types of bush medicines. One that Patsy paints is called apeng which is the desert kurrajong tree. This tree has multiple uses and is often portrayed in Patsy's paintings as a cross or star shape because of the shape of its leaves. While the medicinal property of ...this tree is not widely documented, Patsy and others will tell you the water found in its roots can be drunk to help cure sore throats. The roots hold considerable water and are also considered an emergency water supply for that reason. To drink the water, the roots are broken into pieces, sometimes scraped a little and then either sucked, or propped up in a cup or dish to allow the water to percolate out. Dreamtime Sisters are connected spiritually to the women as represented by thick white lines. The women are performing ceremony for the Arlatyeye story (a sacred pencil yam and its seed). 13.01.2022 Alpar Seed Story by Karen Bird Ngale / Online Friday x Designs in this painting predominately represent elements of the Alpar Dreaming Story whereby the dry seeds of alpar play a significant role. In the olden days, the aboriginal women of Ilkawerne country would collect these seeds, sometimes soak them in water until swollen or cooked in hot coals, and then grind them into a powder that was used for making damper (bread). This practice is not as habitual n...ow due to readymade bread, however, the story is continually taught to the younger ones and ceremonies are carried out to ensure its productivity. The scented leaves of alpar were also collected, soaked in water and used as a medicinal wash. Alternatively, they would be ground into a powder and mixed with animal fats for use as an ointment, making this plant a very important food and medicinal source. 30cm x 30cm / $279 / pre-stretched. #AboriginalArt #EthicalArt #FemaleArt #AustralianArt See more

01.01.2022 Gloria Petyarre's Leaves paintings have enchanted the country for over three decades. They explore a mental image of a spectacular desert floor covered in fallen medicinal leaves, rustled awake by a gentle breeze that is stirring and sweeping them across the land Painted with a mid-size brush, this relatively small piece has the composition of Gloria's 'big leaf' paintings and the movement of her earlier small leaf paintings.
