05.01.2022 Presented with the choice, only 5 to 8% of people finish online courses. With no choice, they disengage from boredom with uninteresting material or frustration with irrelevant or too much material. Navigating between boredom and frustration requires 'Progressive Mastery', a construct developed by Professor Albert Bandura and researched by Professor Robert (Bob) Wood. Progressive Mastery' makes learning engaging without overwhelming capabilities. Here are three simple actions... for greater progressive mastery on any task: 1. Break the task into smaller steps. For example 'write a memo' can become; 'read material, take notes, write an outline', etc. 2. Focus on progress and write a list to check activities off. Small successes are motivating. 3. Reflect on strategies for each step. There is always something to learn. Our learning philosophy and methods are evidence-based and work. Progressive mastery drives self-efficacy, persistence, and performance on learning tasks. Learners build on what they know and work on manageable challenges, with confidence. Contact us for more information on how to make progressive mastery the driver of skilling in your organisation. #selfefficacy #checklists #learning #utsfuturesacademy
