22.01.2022 You got all type of wanjina, you got thunder, you got lighting and you got rain, all type of wanjina you know. But they all one mob, but some of them, are different. Like us, we got our own wanjina here, other people got their wanjina you see, with their halo, that’s their wanjina. My wanjina just the circle, you know, proper wanjina you know, arms and legs and then he couldn’t talk cause they were really jealous of him and he wasn’t really human, he was a big man. But they ...cut his tongue and he couldn’t even speak anymore, because he was the smartest person ever gone in the bush Joseph Karadada, sharing his stories on Wuuyuru, Bigge Island. 16.01.2022 Lovely calendars from photographer Gary Annett Photography who was living on Wunambal Gaambera Country last wet season, taking lots of photos. He even took a few photos of our Uunguu Rangers doing weed work at the beginning of the year around Munurru. These calendars showcase some of our incredible Wunambal Gaambera Country including Kimberley icons, Punamii-Uunpuu (Mitchell Falls) and Bunjani (Big and Little Mertens). And the great thing - all calendars purchased, will donate money to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (WA).

08.01.2022 Mid-year 2020 High resolution burnt area mapping of the North Kimberley. This mapping has been produced by the Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research (DCBR - Charles Darwin University) for the North Kimberley Fire Abatement Project funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature and Lotterywest. This map illustrates the huge amount of work conducted during the early dry season to reduce late dry season wildfires. The strategic burning across this vast landscape is supporting a large r...eduction in carbon emissions, better environmental outcomes and work for Indigenous ranger groups. The North Kimberley Fire Abatement Project is a partnership between the Kimberley Land Council and the Wunambal Gaambera, Balanggarra, Wilinggin and Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporations that represent the Traditional Owners responsible for looking after and managing the country in the North Kimberley. 08.01.2022 Bait and a feed of arjudu, longbum, mudwhelk or telescopium telescopium... These shellfish are collected from the mud of mangrove areas on Wunambal Gaambera Country. They can be cooked on a fire, broken open and eaten. They have green tasty flesh and are very easily collected at low tides. They can also be used as bait when fishing with a line. 06.01.2022 Our Uunguu Rangers and Traditional Owners have been monitoring our cultural sites at our Uunguu Visitor Locations open to tourists on Wunambal Gaambera country through our Uunguu Visitor Pass. With increasing numbers of visitors to our country we need to monitor the health of our tock art sites. We have just received a grant from the Australian government which is supporting us to manage and protect our sites. These two incredible photos are of anthropologist Dr Ian Crawford... from over 70 years ago at a stone arrangement on Bigge Island, and the second image is of Traditional Owner Joseph Karadada in front of the same arrangement in 2020. We are using old images to monitor our sites and establish a baseline to compare to. An incredible project and as our chair, Catherine Goonack said, It is so important for our families to get out on our Country. It feels good when we are sharing our knowledge to our young ones, and learning new ways from the scientists to help us protect our country for future generations. 01.01.2022 'HMC Mermaid 1820' inscribed boab tree at Uunguu Visitor Location, Wunbung-gu (Careening Bay). Our Wunambal Gaambera history is a lot older than this carved Bodgurri (boab) tree. The old people of Wunbung-gu and Gural families lived near the grove of Gun gurryu (cycads) at the south end of the beach. Find more of the historical story of this ancient boab visited by Phillip Parker King in 1820, 2 centuries ago. ... https://www.abc.net.au//boab-tree-bears-markings-/12734916 ABC Kimberley Bush Heritage Australia
