23.01.2022 The School of Social Sciences were pleased to host a successful 11th Biennial Korean Studies Association of Australasia conference at UWA in early December. The... conference featured presentations from experts from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the US, Europe and Japan, as well as a gayageum performance by Dr Jocelyn Clark, and keynotes by Professor Kyounghee Moon (Changwon Nationa University) and Professor Tae-Gyun Park (Seoul National University). With over 100 participants, this was the largest Korean Studies conference ever organised in WA. We spent an hour looking for Maja Maric and Claudia Sims who disappeared in the sea of gowns, but gave you a big cheer from the front of the stage!!! !!! 16.01.2022 *Please share widely noting the tight deadline for applications and visa requirements for applicants (due to COVID restrictions on travel).* KOREA RESEARCH CEN...TRE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW (0.6FTE, 9 months, with a possibility of extension for the right candidate) The newly-established Korean Research Centre at UWA is seeking to make a fixed-term, fractional appointment for a KRC Postdoctoral Fellow at 0.6FTE for 9 months, Level A.8, commencing at the latest by September 1 2020, within the School of Humanities. It is to work specifically within one of the Centres key themes: Emotions (other themes that will be explored in future years will be Body and Identity). The position is expected to produce at least two scholarly articles accepted for publication by the end of that year of funding. There may be further opportunities to publish and collaborate related to an Emotions collaboratory that will run during this period. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate ability to work with Korean language materials. This position is supported by the Core University Program for Korean Studies through the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and Korean Studies Promotion Service of the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS-2020-OLU-20200039). Applicants should submit to Prof Susan Broomhall ([email protected]) by 31 July 2020; 1) a scholarly cv; 2) a research proposal related to Emotions in Korean Studies in a Humanities/Social Sciences field; 3) a 9-month schedule for how the work would be carried out and completed within the funded timeline (external location may be possible); and 4) evidence of current working rights in Australia.
