25.01.2022 APPLY for WOODSIDES 2020/21 SUMMER VACATION PROGRAM Woodside are particularly interested in recruiting physics graduates this year.

25.01.2022 The concepts and methods of physics have been applied in medicine for many years. Some of the greatest inventions in modern medicine were developed by physicists who imported technologies such as X-rays, nuclear magnetic resonance, ultrasound, particle accelerators and radioisotope tagging and detection techniques into the medical domain. However, there are plenty of unanswered questions, such as: Would it be possible to produce biological models of the tumour and no...rmal tissue dose responses in radiation therapy? Can the interaction of radiotherapy and immunotherapy be modelled? What are the possibilities for providing the least invasive diagnostic method with superior image quality for each patient? Would it be possible to assist and gradually replace radiology specialists with artificial intelligence? How can the outcome of radiotherapy be predicted for every patient and how can the treatment be tailored accordingly? See more

05.01.2022 A multileaf collimator is a collimator or beam-limiting device that is made of individual "leaves" of a high atomic numbered material, usually tungsten, that can move independently in and out of the path of a radiotherapy beam in order to shape it and vary its intensity. Most modern linear accelerators incorporate tertiary field shapingin the form of multileaf collimators (MLCs) in their design. In many treatment applications, MLCs eliminate the need for customized blocking a...nd are able to conform to relatively complex shapes. The MLC quality assurance protocol for dynamic delivery is more stringent, requiring leaf speed characterization. Now a more thorough understanding of the design of MLCs is required for treatment planning and QA. For example, whether the path of the radiation follows beam divergence or is linear creates differing penumbra effects. Thanks to our great engineer, Mr. Mohsin Ahmed for providing this video.
