10.01.2022 Throwback Thursday... State Relay Championships 2010 #UWAACarchives #teamuwa #throwbackthursday #athleticswest @ WA Athletics Stadium

10.01.2022 Member Monday- Meet **Bernadette Williams** Events- 800m/1500m (WA State Record holder) 1. When did you start athletics journey? During high school - my twin sister Annie and I got addicted to all sports available to us at high school, but we loved running the most. We trained with a squad coached by Ron McCann, Ive got such good memories of training with that group. He was so good at teaching us good form and getting us speedy, Im sure I owe any speed I have to him. I veer...ed away to soccer then surf lifesaving during uni, but doing the 2km beach runs at surf club and some longer road races made me want to try out the track again (about 10yrs later)! 2. Where is your favourite training venue? McGillvray hands down, Im sure I dont need to explain why to UWAAC members best grass track in Aus! 3. Why did you join UWA Athletics Club? I spent 7 years studying at UWA, I live close to and love training at McGillivray, but most importantly the UWAAC ladies I spoke to on my return to track racing were so friendly - easy choice. 4. What are your short term (next 12months) and long terms goals for athletics? Short term - I just want to race again at the moment, what a bummer of a year to move to Melbourne! Id love to bring my times down across all distances in the next 12 months really, if I dont then thatll always be the long term goal Also in high school I always thought Id try a steeplechase one day, its a scary race but Ill have to tick it off the bucket list once in my life. 5. What is your proudest achievement in the sport so far? In terms of performance, my run at the Oceania champs last year, where I snagged the silver medal, my PB and the WA 1500m record - couldnt be more stoked with that. But mainly Im just proud I gave athletics another go and came down to a Friday night comp one evening - if you never go youll never know! We are so proud to have you representing the wings over-east and look forward to another big summer of track. Thank you for coming back to the sport, youre a role model to all those little athletes out there. It is possible to balance full time work as a doctor and be an athlete. #uwaac #teamuwa #oneteam @ Perth, Western Australia
