06.01.2022 Individual lives mean something, inside and outside of the tragedy of the First World War (any war). Each life is singular, personal, and never to be repeated. Lest we forget. This incredible photo was taken on February 1st 1915 and captures Alvie Clifton, George Medcalf and Ray Clarke in Egypt, where Australian soldiers trained before heading off to Gallipoli. It is followed by a studio portrait of George Medcalf and finally a portrait of Rita that travelled with Medcalf... throughout the war. These photographs are from the exhibition - The Armistice Project. An exhibition revealing the personal stories University of Western Australia men and women through the turmoil and in the wake of the Great War. Curatored by Holly Langford-Smith, presented by UWA Cultural Precinct in association with UWA Historical Society and the University Club of Western Australia. Thank you to Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. ~ P1. Alvie Clifton, George Medcalf and Ray Clarke in front of the Sphinx, Egypt at 9am on 1 February 1915. Courtesy of Margaret Medcalf ~P2.
