25.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that the Honourable Colin Barnett has joined the Economics Discipline as an Adjunct Professor! Colin was the West Australian Premier from 2008 to 2017 and has worked with economics throughout his career! He holds Economic Degrees from UWA and is published in the Economic Record! His Master’s Degree from Economics still sits proudly in the Reid Library! Colin’s wealth of knowledge about Western Australia and its economy is remarkable and we can’t wait for him to meet all our students!!!

22.01.2022 Dear students - don’t forget that next Monday (4th March) is a Public holiday as well as a university holiday! No classes are on. Also most tutorials will start next week (Week 2). The Economics Discipline has a fabulous team of tutors. Please get to know them and participate in class. 21.01.2022 It is with sad news that we announce the passing of Professor Alex Kerr who taught for our discipline for many years and whose portrait proudly hangs out the front of our office. 18.01.2022 The Economics Discipline is saddened by the passing of the honourable Dr Bob Hawke. Bob Hawke was one of the most notable Alumnus for the Economics Discipline as well as for the University as a whole. He studied Economics and Law at UWA and then went on to study Economics further at Oxford University as a Rhode Scholar. He graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws as this was before the Faculty of Economics was created in 1954. Bob Hawke served as Prime Minister for Australia from 1983 to 1991 and in his time in office he oversaw massive economic deregulation including the removal of the trade protectionist and a fixed exchange rate regime.
