21.01.2022 Friday night saw our Ukrainian School Adelaide students visiting the Ukrainian Cultural Museum Adelaide to experience the ‘Ukrainians in SA: Arrival at Outer Ha...rbor and Woodside in 1949’ Exhibition. Students heard stories about Ukrainian migration to Adelaide in 1949 by ship, what it was like living in the Woodside Migrant Camp and viewed documents, photos and items that families brought with them. This experience was most valuable in that it helped students develop a stronger connection to their cultural heritage, understanding what is was like for their relatives travelling to the other side of the world to a foreign and unknown land and beginning a new life in Australia. A big Дякую to Iryna Boujenko and all involved in the Women's Association for creating and sharing this interesting and important exhibition with us. #UkrainianSchoolAdelaide #UkrainiansinAdelaide #SAHistoryFestival #UkrainianWomensAssociationinSA #familyhistory #knowyourroots #familyheritage #Ukrainianmigration #sharestories #sharingforfuturegenerations #historyfestivaladelaide #ukrainianculturalmuseumadelaide #woodsideSA

16.01.2022 Yesterday was Ukraine’s 28th anniversary of Independence. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine officially declared itself an independent state... on 24 August of that year. This afternoon the Ukrainian community will celebrate both Independence Day and the 70th Anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in South Australia with a concert and cabaret at their Association of Ukrainians in SA community centre in Hindmarsh. Many Ukrainians started their new lives in South Australia when they arrived at Outer Harbor in 1949 along with other Displaced Persons from Europe and were taken by special trains to Woodside migrant camp in the Adelaide Hills, where they lived until they found jobs. Many of the younger children started their education here at the school set up at the camp, while older children were bussed to Oakbank. This year is also the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian Museum by the Ukrainian Women's Association in South Australia . It is the only one of its kind in Australia and houses artefacts built up from Ukrainian family heirloom donations reflecting the nation’s history and artisan tradition. Situated round the corner from the Ukrainian Community Centre at 6 George Street Hindmarsh, it is open by appointment as well as having a regular open day and event during South Australia's History Festival in May. 10.01.2022 What a wonderful night we had yesterday reflecting on the stories of Ukrainian Migration, so beautifully captured by the film director Angie Kachan, assisted by Eugene Kachan. Thank you to Lydia Makowijczuk, producer, for her vision and support! We greatly enjoyed the screening of the short film, followed by panel interviews and discussions.

09.01.2022 Angie Kachan has created a great digital story of our historical exhibition devoted to the first large settlement of Ukrainians in SA. Such a fantastic caption of memories! Thank you Angie!

02.01.2022 What a great success was the Great Ukrainian Banquet, brought to you by the Ukrainian Women’s Association! During a memorable night, we shared our Ukrainian heritage with our guests, national visitors and members of our community. Thank you for the tremendous feedback! The five course dinner, cooked by our members with love, was delicious and the costume showcase, from our museum collection, was unique, memorable and exquisite. What a great way to celebrate 70 year anniversar...y of our organisation and 40 year anniversary of our museum! Thank you to Volya Ukrainian Cossack Dancers for a magnificent performance! Thank you to Dmytro Karpenko and Irina Kravchuk for directing and producing the video short, which will leave such a special and meaningful legacy. Thank you to our gold sponsors: Dnister Ukrainian Credit Co-operative, winedirect.com.au, Jack Didyk, Alan Moss and Lydia Makowijczuk, and Dell'uva Wines! Thank you to our raffle and silent auction sponsors! Your contributions were pivotal in making this event possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to our members and volunteers: working so hard in the kitchen, modelling clothes, serving food, running the bar, running audio and visual, setting up and cleaning up, and doing it all with smiles. We really appreciate your effort, support and dedication! This night will go down in history as one of the most memorable events our community has seen. See more
