19.01.2022 Dear UWA Toastmaster members and guests, Committee members of the UWA Toastmaster Club acknowledge that the ever-changing COVID-19 situation in Australia has created a lot of uncertainty in terms of gathering and meeting in groups such as our weekly Friday meeting. In line with the announcement by the Vice-Chancellor of UWA where all UWA events to which the public are invited onto our campuses will be cancelled for the next month, we will be cancelling our weekly meetings fo...r the rest of March and April 2020. UWA Vice-Chancellor announcement can be viewed here: http://theuniversityofwesternaustralia.newsweaver.com//16a With the cancellation of face-to-face meetings, the committee will be exploring alternatives such as virtual meetings. The viability of this will be communicated by a follow-up email/Facebook post. Kind regards, Lawrence Liew President UWA Toastmaster club

14.01.2022 EOI FOR 2019/2020 CLUB OFFICERS ARE STILL OPEN! Hi all, just letting you know that we are still accepting EOI for people that are interested in becoming one of our club officers. All the positions are still open, from President to Sergeant at arms, with the job description given below. You are required to be a paid member to be a club officer. 1. President: coordinate and manage meetings and team members... 2. Vice President of Education: send out monthly roster, greet new members and manage members' certificate 3. Vice President of Membership: manage Pathways and attend to club members' need 4. Vice President of Public Relations: follow up on guests, sign up new members, manage club's social media and promotional materials 5. Treasurer: manage club's financial, members' payment and new members' sign up 6. Secretary: manage club's mentorship program, record meeting minutes 7. Sergeant at arms: look after club's inventory, prepare and pack up before and after the meeting Please comment on this post if you are interested in any of this role, or if you have any questions on it. It is definitely a good learning experience being in a committee where you will get to improve your communication skills further by working in a team. Or if you feel like you need to step up and challenge yourself more, then this is a good chance not to be missed! Or simply a chance to help others :) And of course, it will also look good in your resume! The EOI will be closed by 26th of April. Make sure you get in touch with us before that! Happy Easter everyone!

09.01.2022 Have you ever been afraid to speak up at a meeting of your peers?

09.01.2022 We are excited to have one of our member, Terence, to finally complete his Competent Communication (CC) manual! His final CC speech with an objective to inspire the audience is titled The Three Questions which is based on a short story by Leo Tolstoy. The story takes the form of a parable, and it concerns a king who wants to find the answers to what he considers the three most important questions in life. When is the most important time? Now! Who is the most important person?... The person you are with at that time. What is the most important thing to do? To do good. Congratulations Terence!

08.01.2022 I had the opportunity to visit a toastmaster meeting in my hometown before I started my tenure as the new club president at Uwa Toastmaster. Kudos to the committee @ Kuching Toastmasters for organising such a memorable meeting! Lawrence Liew

02.01.2022 As of today, I hope everyone is aware that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is declared as a pandemic (global) and it is imperative that we take preventative measures to ensure the wellbeing of all members and guests. Therefore, I would like to implement a few housekeeping rules: 1) Please DO NOT come to meetings if you have travelled overseas (in the past 2 weeks), experiencing flu-like symptoms or suspect you have come in contact with a confirmed individual 2) Handshake...s will be replaced with either a bow, elbow tap, foot tap or any creative (and non-offensive) gestures you can think of 3) Keep some space between you and others 4) Sneeze into elbow (not hands) 5) Wash your hands with soap before and after meetings Please contact me if you have any enquiries and refer to UWA, WA Health Department or WHO websites for reliable information. Kind Regards, Lawrence Liew President UWA Toastmasters Club
