Online enrolments close 2 Dec. Meanwhile, the majority of our pool and beach locations commence Monday 4 January and run for 5 or 7 days, not including weekends. 17.01.2022 All hail Surf Life Saving SA Instructor in Charge, Marley Fairclough, from West Beach Surf-Lifesaving Club, who won 2020 Surf Life Saving SA’s Rescue of the Year, for a rescue performed with the help of two other instructors, while teaching Vacswim last summer in her remote home town of Penong in the Eyre Peninsula. Marley's story is a reminder of how important it is for ourselves to take activities around water seriously and be aware of what might happen, as incidences such ...as this can happen at any time in any place and our attention and quick reaction, and everything that follows, can simply be the difference between life and death. To top this off she herself learned her rescue skills growing up participating in the Vacswim program at the location that she now teaches. 15.01.2022 For all our December Vacswimmers (and parents / grandparents) commencing Monday 14th December here are some handy tips for your first day and a list to remind you what to bring Before You Arrive Pack your bag by referring to our What To Bring List below... Get to your pool or lake 15 mins before the scheduled start time on the first day so your IC can tell you who your teacher is going to be for the week. Be dressed in your bathers ready to go. Make sure you put your sunscreen on before you leave home. Most of all, be ready to have heaps of fun! What to Bring Sunscreen Hat Rash Top Bathers Towel Bottle of Water Shoes (aka thongs!) Goggles Log Book (if you are using one) Puffer/medication (just in case you need it!) Maybe some pocket money for a snack (yummy ice-cream!) 11.01.2022 Here is a simple how to book your child into VACSWIM 2020 - 2021! 1. Decide on either a beach or pool location (children can switch between locations each year). 2. Choose the level that is appropriate for your child based on the chart provided under our program information page (No stress!!! children are assessed on the first day by instructors to see if they need to be moved up or down a level). ... 3. Visit our location page and type your location into the map. This will show the available VACSWIM programs nearest to you. If you only wish to see beach locations or only pool locations, check the 'filter'. 4. To view the location details (dates, cost, etc.) click on the red location pin and 'View More' button. 5. When you are ready, press the green 'Click to book online' to be taken to the booking portal of the program provider for that location and complete your booking. 11.01.2022 **** Media Release - COVID: Pools **** Dear members of the public, We understand this Thursday, Friday and through the weekend will see temperatures rise to 40c.... Unfortunately, due to current COVID-19 restrictions (in place until Tuesday 1st December), pools are NOT open for public access to recreational swimmers. They are only open for rehabilitation and fitness (lap swimming). The advice from Recreation SA to avoid disappointment is to: plan ahead, check to see if your desired centre is open and make a booking if required, ONLY to attend for fitness or rehabilitation purposes, come properly prepared if you do visit, and WATCH AROUND WATER to keep your family safe. Our centres would love to see you, and we value your business, but we may have to turn visitors away if you are not swimming for fitness or rehabilitation purposes. We can’t wait to see you again once these restrictions have been lifted.

This report examines the factors that contribute to drowning deaths in Australia by examining who, where, when and how people have drowned in Australian waterways over the last year. Their 2020 report is out and 248 people lost their lives to drowning across our county last year but on a brighter note, this is an overall decrease of 24% in drownings on the 10-year average.
