20.01.2022 Cool technology for a cool job. Vacuum sanitary drainage is the solution for this harsh environment. Saving water equals less energy required to make water in frozen climates. #antarctica #icy #cool #technology #vacuum #savewater #sustainability
19.01.2022 With a near perfect BREEAM score, the new Bloomberg Headquarters in the UK is hailed as one of the most sustainable office buildings in the world. One of the key sustainability features is a Jets vacuum sanitary system, consisting of over 500 low-flush vacuum pans, using less than a litre per flush. Using recycled rainwater, the building is using net zero mains water for toilet flushing and is expected to save 25 million litres of water in its first year of operation. In Aust...ralia, where fresh water is extremely scarce, it is about time we start looking at this technology more seriously and include it in any new commercial development. To find out more about the advantages of using vacuum in commercial developments, read the cover story on sustainability in the latest P&HE Journal (p.18): https://issuu.com/plumbingheatingeng/docs/phe_jan18_issuu

17.01.2022 Sydneys dam levels are sinking rapidly, with levels being 20% lower than this time last year. The Daily Telegraph is reporting that at the current rate, Sydneys water will run out in 2022. Stricter water restrictions are being imposed on residents. Yet we continue to flush twice a persons drinking water requirements down the toilet each time we flush and no one is doing anything about it? A quick calculation shows that a single person uses almost 9,000L of fresh drinking... water to flush the (gravity) toilet a year: 4L per flush, 6 times a day, 365 days = 8,760L. Sydney has approximately 4,6 million inhabitants. That means, Sydney flushes a total of: 40,296,000,000 litres of fresh, drinkable water down the toilet. Every. Single. Year. There is a technology that can reduce this number by 90%, and if combined with other smart technology, could even cut fresh water usage down to net zero. Vacuum toilets are Australias future. What are we waiting for?

10.01.2022 The goal of Net Zero Water is becoming ever more important as Australia continues to experience constant cycles of drought. Vacuum toilets can play an integral part in achieving this goal, as they support the basic strategies for implementing Net Zero. They: - reduce water demand by using merely 0.5L per full flush, - can be used with alternative water sources (i.e. rain water, condensate), - allow for easy separation of greywater and blackwater (the concentrated and macerate...d blackwater from vacuum toilets is ideal for reuse - i.e. biogas production, while greywater can be recycled and reused). Read more on the Net Zero goal in the current issue of Plumbing Connection. #netzero #water #netzerowater #waterconservation #recycledwater #waterquality #positivewater #plumbing #hydraulicservices #engineeringconsultants #plumbingconnectionmagazine

08.01.2022 Bloombergs Headquarters rated the worlds most sustainable office building. Modern vacuum toilets, using net zero mains water for flushing, are helping the building save 25 million litres of water a year.
08.01.2022 Day Zero - the day we run out of drinking water - is fast approaching. Australia, it is time we had a chat. Unlike other resources that are becoming scarce, we cannot survive without drinking water. Yet we continue to flush our most precious resource down the toilet, as if our lives didnt depend on it. As a nation, we have to put a stop to this nonsense and start using modern technologies that are already available to us. With 0.5L per full flush, Jets is the most water eff...icient toilet on the market and can reduce water usage for flushing by 80%. Separation of grey and black water means grey water can be recycled and reused and the concentrated black water can be used for bio-gas production. Sustainable building designs like the Bloomberg headquarters in London, have demonstrated that it is possible to reduce the use of drinking water for toilet flushing to net zero, by combining vacuum sanitary drainage with technologies like cooling tower water recycling. It is important we start acting now. Because unlike renewable energy, there is no alternative to drinking water. Lets stop Day Zero. Go green. Go vacuum.
08.01.2022 Great news - the Greywater Guide for Western Australia has been launched! We have long been advocating for source separation to re-use greywater as an alternative to precious freshwater. Great to see the WA government supporting it!
08.01.2022 Standards Australia Publishes Amendment for Inclusion of Vacuum Drainage After 6 long years of development, Vacuum Toilets Australia is pleased to announce that just last week, Standards Australia issued an amendment (Amtd 2) for the inclusion of Vacuum Drainage into the Australia Standard AS/NZS 3500.2:2015 Sanitary Plumbing and Drainage. This is a great achievement for industry as 0.8 litres per flush vacuum sanitary toilets and urinals, along with grey water interface collection tanks (allowing connection to basin, sinks and fixtures) can now be specified and installed in compliance with regulatory controls.

07.01.2022 A Popping Reward for Being Water-Wise Sydney Water have thought of a clever idea to get people to re-think their water usage. The utility is handing out free popcorn in exchange for the promise to behave more water-wise.... Would you take the water-wise pledge in return for free popcorn?
07.01.2022 The New York Times reports that aerosols produced during toilet flushing could transmit coronavirus and other harmful viruses and bacteria. Vacuum toilets, however, suck 60-100 litres of air down the toilet during each flush, and with it aerosols, viruses and bacteria. Only one of the reason why vacuum toilets are the preferred choice in hospitals and public settings.
06.01.2022 Last week, Minister for Water Dave Kelley MP launched the Greywater Guide for West Australians. Domestic greywater collected from showers, sinks, etc. can meet the demand for garden irrigation, keeping your garden green and luscious while reducing your water bill.
