All vacuum systems consist basically of a vessel or its equivalent in pipelines and a pump or pumps, together with connecting tabulations and valves generally monitored by some form of gauging equipment.... Understanding your application requirements is an important first step in the choice of the right vacuum pump system. Remember, more is not necessarily better and selecting the proper combination of pump down speed, efficiency and performance are all important. Normally liquid ring pumps are recommended in processes that are wet. These processes are difficult to be handled by oil sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps which are available from manufacturers like Gardner Denver Elmo Rietschle, Busch etc as the moisture will mix with oil in the compression chamber and form an emulsion. Wet processes can also not be handled by Rotary Lobe vacuum pumps or claw type vacuum pumps offered by manufacturers like Pedro Gil, Aerzen, Busch vacuum or Gardner Denver unless special coatings are done to handle water vapour. Usually, a liquid ring vacuum pumps is used as a rotating positive displacement vacuum pump but it can also be used as a gas compressor compressing gases to pressures above the atmospheric. As far as function, liquid ring pumps have similarities with a rotary vane pump but differences are crucial for achieving highest reliabilities and trouble-free operation. A continuous supply of service liquid is necessary to limit the temperature rise in the pump caused by the heat of compression, friction, and condensation. Any excessive rise in temperature will have a detrimental effect on performance, reducing the capacity and degree of vacuum attainable.
