Timber and forest industry workers play a vital role in the fire season, with many forest workers dedicating their time and energy to firefighting efforts every summer, as well assisting in reducing the fire risk through their many roles across rural and regional Victoria.

High-quality, reliable freight transport and logistics services are vital to keeping our industry moving. According the the State Government's Victorian Freight Plan forecast commodity movements at the Port of Melbourne suggest that dairy, wheat, cereal and other agricultural products will almost double by 2060. This chart shows that pulp and paper products, and timber and wood products are on the increase as well. With industry delivering $7.3 billion in sales and service income, we are part of Victoria’s economic prosperity.

17.01.2022 http:// Under threat // VAFI Chief Executive Officer, Tim Johnston, has expressed disappointment in draft proposals by the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) to create an extensive suite of new national parks in Victoria’s west. Mr Johnston said that the draft proposals to create new national parks in the Wombat, Wellsford and Pyrenees Ranges State forests would have negative impacts on local businesses and communities.... These proposals will severely impact the local harvesters and processors that rely on the high quality timber sourced from these forests, said Mr Johnston. 09.01.2022 VAFI welcomes reports of a commitment from the State Opposition to not establish the proposed Great Forest National Park (GFNP) if they win government in November. Mr Tim Johnston, CEO of VAFI, said the confirmation on the proposed park made by the Opposition Leader Matthew Guy yesterday is a positive step for the timber and forestry industry in the state, and he looks forward to seeing the detailed policy platforms from the Coalition. I am encouraged to see that the Coalition are clear on their policy towards the proposed GFNP, which if established would have devastating consequences for the industry, and a direct impact socially and economically for all of Victoria."
