17.01.2022 You may be looking into seeing a private GP. However, you may be unsure (and maybe worried about) how it will affect your use of the NHS service. If this is holding you back, you don’t need to worry. Simply put, you do not need to deregister with your NHS GP in order to see a private GP. The systems they use are different, so the services run independently of each other. Your NHS GP will not be aware that you have used a different service. They will only be aware if that i...nformation is intentionally shared by yourself. Your private clinic will only share the information with your permission. This means that you can use a private GP service as much or as little as you like, complementing your NHS healthcare, with you in control. 12.01.2022 As a student at the University of St Andrews, you are entitled to NHS treatment during your time at university. We recommend that you register with one of the two NHS general practices based at St Andrews Hospital. There is now also an additional Nursing service at the practice, specifically to help students get access to timely healthcare. However, some students do choose to use private GP services and this is where we can help. Perhaps you are a parent and living overseas...? You just want to be sure that your child has easy and convenient access to a GP should they ever need it. Many health insurance policies will reimburse the cost of seeing a private GP, and so it is worth checking that with your provider. If you choose to see a private GP it will not affect your ability to access the NHS at any point, and you are freely able to use them both.
