18.01.2022 Well the maternity ward here at the Valley has certainly been keeping Dr Paula Bell-Cross busy this season! We currently have another 3 mares in for her to foal down, all of them starting to look like they are getting close to baby time The VEVC team is very much looking forward to meeting these babies when they arrive, and we have everything crossed for smooth deliveries all round

16.01.2022 New Years Day as a repro vet... where else would I be but at work and breeding mares? Two frozen breeds done and dusted and a lovely little embryo transfer pregnancy confirmed in one of recipient mares - yay! Now time to find some aircon...

15.01.2022 Ooooh la la. Someone has an appetite for sand.

15.01.2022 Preg test time again this morning and here we have not one, not two, but three little pregnancies! Our first lot of triplets for the season - now that’s what we call a fertile mare!!

15.01.2022 It’s quite the maternity ward here at the Valley at the moment with 5 pregnant mares currently being monitored, all due to foal in the next month. We use Foalert foaling alarms, and the expectant mums are under video camera surveillance overnight. As always Dr Paula is on stand-by for midwife duties, and hopes to be delivering another foal any day now, so watch this space!

13.01.2022 Maybe that’s why some horses are terrified of puddles

13.01.2022 Well our dummy is certainly getting a workout this season and we are collecting several stallions each week at the moment. Here is a video of a collection we did yesterday from a lovely quarter-horse stallion ‘Heez Zippin Hot’. As you can see, he initially jumped with his penis over to the right of the dummy, but this guy knows the drill and was able to sort himself out and was collected from the left which is normal for this boy. As always a big thank-you to Darren Taylor for his expert handling skills at collection time
