25.01.2022 Were back for another day of LBP #MythBusting fun! Today, an important message about movement: if you experience #pain when you move, it DOESNT necessarily me...an youre doing harm. The pain you may feel during exercise is reflective not of damage to your back, but often rather sensitivity of the spine and surrounding muscles. This pain is normal, and will usually settle with time. Its also important to note that exercise is one of THE most effective ways to treat pain. If you need help with exercise, or even just some reassurance that what youre doing is safe, pay your physio a visit. For more information, you can find the research here: https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2019/12/31/bjsports-2019-101611 #choosephysio #mythbusting #exerciseismedicine

09.01.2022 The 'Games of the new millennium' came to a close 20 years ago this week, and our athletes would not have experienced their success without sweat and tears. Tod...ay, we look back on the incredible team of physiotherapists standing behind our athletes through the words of APA Musculoskeletal and Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Ross Smith, MACP. Check out some of Ross' memories about one of the best physiotherapy clinics ever built for the Olympic Games "The purpose built Australian Team Medical clinic was the best medical facility that we have ever had at an Olympic Games. There was adequate space for a first-class medical facility. The physiotherapy section of the medical clinic comprised of the largest area. There were 25 beds for the use of Australian team physiotherapists. An effective curtain was installed between the physiotherapy and the massage therapy section. There were times when the screen was pushed across so that massage therapists could use our facilities and vice versa. This clinic was ideal as all three disciplines; medical, physiotherapy and massage therapy were in close relationship with each other. This produced good communication between the medical disciplines in the Australian Olympic Team. The physiotherapists appearing in the photos include (from left to right): Volleyball: APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Andrew Hughes, MACP Water Polo: APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Andrea Mosler, FACP Swimming: APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Roger Fitzgerald, MACP Athletics: Anne Lord, APAM Gymnastics: APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Leanne Rath, FACP Judo/Taekwondo: APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Denny Shearwood, MACP APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Trish Wisby-Roth, FACP APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Craig Purdam, FACP APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Peter Eckhardt, MACP" #2000OlympicGames

05.01.2022 Ready to get back to the gym post-iso? Be sure to follow these tips from physios around Australia to make your return without injury as smooth as possible. Wa...rm-up and cool-down properly using stretching, foam-rolling and icing techniques to aid in your recovery. Drop your pre-iso weight by 20-30% and gradually increase the weight over four-eight weeks depending on your age and fitness level. Get your form checked by a professional and ensure you are controlled and slow in your repetitions. Dont go too hard, too early! Build up to your pre-iso levels as your muscles and tendons will have likely shrunk, making you more susceptible to injury. Check in with your local physio to avoid injury and manage your return to full capacity. For more recommendations from APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Julie Campbell, MACP, and Brooke Patterson, APAM, on returning to the gym, head to https://ab.co/2XPA3Z6 #StayFitSaturday #gym #choosephysio #weekendworkout
