22.01.2022 Another little flash back from years gone by. A Visy advert for their preprint lid featuring Valley Pack’s export brand from the mid 80s. In those days, pears from the Goulburn Valley made up the majority of fresh fruit export from Australia.

Here’s a shot of Ian Hall inspecting a container load of his pears in Philadelphia way back in the 70s For comparison, whilst he was enjoying his morning coffee from the office, we snapped another photo of Ian just 44 years later. Can you guess the shipping line in the old photo?

12.01.2022 After a 6 month long restoration project managed by our mechanic Paul, our beloved 1978 Ford 3600 is back in business on the water cart. This tractor was one of 3 units purchased new by Valley Pack from Smith motors in Shepparton, and has worked almost daily on the orchards over the years. We estimate over 15,000 hours were on the engine before we needed to rebuilt it.

09.01.2022 Almost every tonne of export product that we cool, store, and eventually transport, is derived from sunlight and irrigation water. It’s heartbreaking to see 2 trillion litres of valuable water released from the dams, flow past the many weirs and locks, eventually ending up in the lower lakes. All so it can evaporate, or flow out the barrages to sea. #cantheplan #waterforfood #waterforjobs

07.01.2022 People often ask why our coolrooms are so tall compared to those in Robinvale and Mildura. The answer is that 25 of our 33 rooms are air tight controlled atmosphere chambers capable of storing bulk pears and apples for as long as 12 months. So far this season we have 15,250 bulk bins in storage under CA with 5700 bins still to come in. 10 of these rooms are also designed to cool down to as low as -27c .

01.01.2022 Today we said farewell Jimmy Mechkaroff. Jim was a colleague, a friend, and most of all a genuinely good bloke. We have lost a very valuable member of our team, however a beautiful family has lost a caring father and husband. ... We appreciate the messages that have come through from many of the terminal staff who got to know Jimmy over his time at KBT and Valley Pack, and to those who traveled up from Melbourne to attend his funereal today. Valley Pack wish to sincerely thank the efforts of the team at Victorian International Container Terminal who responded to the incident, and provided the initial assistance, and continually checked in on Jims situation over the following week. Jimmy, may you be the first in any line up, and we hope that what ever you’re driving, it’s got a couple extra km’s on the pedal RIP Jimmy
