25.01.2022 Our first hybrid (livestream and in-the-flesh) service went ahead this morning! It was so great to have some of our valley family including some new faces get together to praise the Lord and hear from his word. Thanks to the amazing team of servers who made it happen and to those who attended or tuned in live. https://youtu.be/8tnLQWbFQr0
23.01.2022 At the moment we're counting the cost of COVID again. The protection of the vulnerable and limiting the spread comes at a cost for all of us. The loss of social interaction, the frustrations of juggling work and family and remote learning. The loneliness, cost to businesses and loss of work for many... it's easy to question whether the cost is worth it. Yet as we look around the world, we also know that the cost of COVID getting out of control is even greater. We weigh the co...st against the risk. A far greater cost is being calculated by Daniel's three friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in our passage this week - Daniel chapter 3. It moves us to consider what cost would we be willing to bear in order to be faithful to our God. Living this side of the cross of Jesus, we have all the more reason to count the cost in light of the cost Christ bore for us. '...he loved me and gave himself for me...' (Gal 2.20). Join us as we consider what it looks like to bear the cost of faithfulness and why we would want to!
23.01.2022 What does your heavenly father think of your suffering? What are his plans and purposes in the midst of it? Today we come to a challenging but beautiful passage in the book of Hebrews that helps us understand what it means to worship in the midst of the ups and downs of life.
22.01.2022 Forgiveness is a powerful thing. It can bring healing, change, restoration. Many of us know the power of being forgiven. Many of us know the pain of having forgiveness withheld. Many of us would love to forgive someone who has wronged us, if only they would acknowledge the wrong they've done! When it comes to forgiving others, if we're honest with ourselves we are mindful of the fact that we aren't perfect and so can understand the failures of others. Since we ourselves have failed, we can forgive the failures of others. But God has never failed. How can he forgive? This week we reflect on the power of God's forgiveness and how it enables us to draw near to one another and to Him.
17.01.2022 Join us this morning for our Sunday service as we look through Daniel 2 together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZGEHmOBkvE
17.01.2022 Some things are hard to grasp the scale of. The size of the earth... the size of the galaxy... the number of COVID deaths world wide. In the gospel, we have something so big, so precious, so incredible that it's almost beyond comprehension. It's easy to lose sight of the scale of it. But when we get a glimpse of its power and beauty, and its implications, it changes everything. How will we keep it in our sights? Join us this Sunday as we're reminded of the importance of drawing near to each other and to our God.
16.01.2022 Faith is the enemy of reason. Faith is a blind leap in the dark. Faith is what people hold to when they are dreaming, ignorant or intellectually lazy. Sound familiar? Is it true? This week we take a look at one of the most famous treatments of the topic of faith in the Bible. It's a great passage, but one that is often misunderstood. When we get to the heart of it we realize that many of the above critiques of faith are actually describing a kind of faith that the Bible does not endorse! Have a look at Hebrews 11 and join us at 10am on Sunday to see what, (or who!) Biblical faith is really all about.
16.01.2022 What does it take to be humbled before the Lord? What might be necessary to move us from lip service of worship of our God, to genuine humility before his majestic glory? So far in Daniel we've seen Nebuchadnezzar twice moved to praise the God of Israel and confess his lordship over history. Each time we're given cause to question the depth of his confession. Join us this week as we see the lengths that God goes to humble this king, then his kindness to exalt his lowly one to rule. The same kindness that led the king of heaven to take on flesh and be obedient to death. The kindness by which he is with us now and promises to exalt us in him.
10.01.2022 World views. Everyone has one. A way of making sense of the world around them. Where it came from, where it's going, what their place in it is. What will you let shape your world view? The Bible gives us a view of the future, a way of understanding the past, and a way of understanding ourselves. At the heart of it is the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus and the urgent call to be reconciled to God in Him. To receive and trust in his promise and let it shape your every moment. To await his return with eager expectation, and to enjoy the freedom and confidence before our Father which was won through him.
09.01.2022 Do you fear God? Should you? In Christ, we can draw near to Him as Father, 'with a sincere heart and with full assurance' (Heb 10.22). Yet he remains the Holy, Righteous Judge of all. How do these things go together? Last week we saw that our loving Father is working in all things for our good and growth and His glory, this week we see a deeper motivation for our transformation as we're reminded of the holiness and power of God.
08.01.2022 Is Christmas too good to be true? Depending on where you're coming from, you may need convincing that the Christmas 'story' is true or that it is 'good'. Or both. Or maybe in the busy-ness of the year you just need reminding as one whose heart is (like all of us) prone to forget. It's not possible to understate just how good the good news of Christmas is. As we start out our Christmas series in Luke's opening chapters, we see that the arrival of Jesus will bring unparalleled ...hope, joy and peace. Yet it's meaningless if it is not true. But if it is true, then it changes everything. Our weary world needs more than nice stories. It needs more than just painful truths. It needs the truly good news of Christmas. Our hearts need to hear and be reminded of this good and true news. Perhaps you need persuading that that this good news is true, or that the true news is good! As we start our journey through Luke's lead-up to Christmas, he wants us to be in no doubt that his message his true and good.
