19.01.2022 How did you go with your daily exercise last week? Today we want to take you through meditation and mindfulness what is it? . We have so much going on these days. Our minds are full. Our thoughts are racing, and often not always about all the positives in our life. Now more than ever it is important to take time out of your day and calm the mind and the body. Take time to practice some deep breathing and learning how to quieten the mind. Science shows that when we can calm... the mind and body our overall level of wellbeing and happiness can increase. So, what are you waiting for? . Download any of the free apps and start practicing some mediation, mindfulness or slow relaxing yoga. Some great apps available are ‘Headspace’, ‘Stop, Breathe, Think’, ‘Relax Melodies’, ‘Smiling Mind’ and ‘Reachout Breathe’. . If you are needing some additional support with your mental health or wellbeing then please reach out Valley Youth: www.valleyyouth.org.au [email protected] or 9243 1225 Kids Help Line: 1800 55 1800 or www.kidshelpline.com.au Reach out: www.reachout.com Lifeline: 13 11 14 or www.lifeline.org.au If you are at immediate risk of harm, please contact 000

19.01.2022 Did you know that YOU have the power to turn positivity on or off? You have the ability to create a brighter life fulfilled with a more positive outlook? . The fastest way to make yourself happy in both the short and long term is through gratitude. When you are able to start and end each day with a focus on what you are grateful in life, you actually train your brain to find more of it throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be anything big, it is just starting and getting in...to the habit that is more important. Before you go to bed every night write down three things that made you smile today. Take time to really think about what those three things were and remember the feeling you had at the time. For example; When I woke today it was really nice to hear the sounds of the birds signing, it made me feel calm and peaceful. Can you challenge yourself to write three things every day for a week? Or better yet for 21 days? Create a habit that will last a life time and teach your brain to seek out things that make you feel happy. If you would like more information about gratitude writing or changing your mindset then please reach out Valley Youth: www.valleyyouth.org.au [email protected] or 9243 1225 Kids Help Line: 1800 55 1800 or www.kidshelpline.com.au Reach out: www.reachout.com Lifeline: 13 11 14 or www.lifeline.org.au If you are at immediate risk of harm, please contact 000

05.01.2022 - Setting a regular bed and wake time? Are you getting good quality sleep? . Sleep is such an important part of our lives yet most of us don’t pay enough attention to it. When we sleep well, it can help us feel good physically and mentally, and even motivate us to achieve great things! But if we don’t get enough sleep it can have huge negative impacts. There are many things we can do to improve our sleep including - Setting a regular bed and awake time - Avoiding day naps - No caffeine or sugar after 2pm - Eating balanced meals and finishing dinner at least 2 hours before bed - Minimising screen time after 8pm - Meditating or belly breathing before bed - Regular exercise each day If you are struggling with your sleep or overall wellbeing and need some help, then please reach out to Valley Youth or one of the services below; Valley Youth: www.valleyyouth.org.au [email protected] or 9243 1225 Kids Help Line: 1800 55 1800 or www.kidshelpline.com.au Reach out: www.reachout.com Lifeline: 13 11 14 or www.lifeline.org.au If you are at immediate risk of harm, please contact 000

02.01.2022 Do you exercise daily? Are you up for a challenge of daily exercise during the holidays? . The body was made to move. Movement and exercise are great for the mind, body and soul. We understand that exercise is a little more difficult at the moment in Melbourne, however thanks to technology there are so many options available to motivate you to move, even in small spaces. Just hit up YouTube for a free yoga video or Zumba workout. Or download one of the many free apps for sho...rt burst workouts, like the 7-minute workout app or Nike run club. If you are allowed outside, go for walks or runs. Challenge yourself to a couch to 5K run or to move at least once a day. Now we can socially distance walk with friends that live in our 5km zone, invite a friend to join you. . There are no rules, just do what feels good for you. Even if you pump out the tunes and jump around your bedroom, this will elevate your heart rate, your mood, and your overall wellbeing. . What option will you pick? . If you need some extra support or motivation then please reach out.
