24.01.2022 Part Three of my sequel to 'Forget Me Not', is almost ready for perusal. One more part and then it's finished!

18.01.2022 I have finished Part 1 of the sequel. Now I'll be looking for someone to read it. That someone could be you!I have finished Part 1 of the sequel. Now I'll be looking for someone to read it. That someone could be you!

17.01.2022 On January 28th, 1919, the Sydney Morning Herald reported: Pneumonic Influenza has appeared in Sydney. This was the Spanish Flu which had killed my grandfather in the November of 1918. Quote: 'The virus known as the Spanish Flu had already hit Melbourne. It was thought that the returning servicemen had brought the virus with them. All public places would be closed down, and effectively turned into temporary hospitals for the victims, and people would be advised to wear masks ...to protect them from the germs.' This is a paragraph from my sequel, written before COVID-19 became our catch cry. The similarities between the two viruses, 100 years apart, are extraordinary. I sit at my computer, writing about something that happened a long time ago, and yet is happening now. Stay well, readers. See more

16.01.2022 A fabulous review by Kate Foulds.

14.01.2022 I want to share with you the words of a song I wrote in 2003, after the Bali bombings. It seems appropriate now. 1. Are you listening? Can you hear me? I'm the voice of things yet to come. Will you face me with resolution? Face me now; there's nowhere else to run. ... Will you stand with all the nations now, at the rising of the sun? Will you pray for peace and brotherhood? A new world has begun. 2. Are you sleeping? Are you dreaming? Do you turn your eyes and look away? Take a stand now, and be strong now, and you'll move the barriers some day. Will you stand with all the nations now, at the rising of the sun? Will you pray for peace and brotherhood? A new world has begun. 3. Stay awake now; look around you. There are things you may not wish to see. But the future of your children lies in hope for all humanity. Will you stand with all the nations now at the rising of the sun? Will you pray for peace and brotherhood? A new world has begun. See more

11.01.2022 I thought I would share with you what one of my readers had to say about Forget me Not. I quote: Just read Part One: The Enlistment. I have my own movie running through my head, with the endearing characters in an historical setting and powerful plot. I can't wait to return to their adventures. You are a powerful storyteller with composition; your attention and skill with music for volume, rests, pitch and tone transfer to print with your adjectives, verbs and direct speech. ...Jaclyn Curnow. I'll have more from Jaclyn next time. See more

10.01.2022 Looking forward to the release of the recording of my song 'The Letter,' on ANZAC Day. 'The Letter' is performed by the Bendigo Youth Choir, and was recorded at the 35th Anniversary of BYC last November. The inspiration for the book 'Forget me Not,' this song has been performed many times at ANZAC and Remembrance Day Services by the Bendigo Youth Choir. It was performed internationally by the choir at the International Choral Kathaumixw, British Columbia, Canada in 2004.

05.01.2022 Hello fellow bookworms! The sequel is under way, and the characters are turning up some surprises, even for me.Hello fellow bookworms! The sequel is under way, and the characters are turning up some surprises, even for me.

03.01.2022 OOPS! I need to make a slight amendment here. What I meant to say in my last post was that I have nearly completed Part 2 of the sequel, not the whole story, as some of you are obviously thinking. So chill out a little longer.

03.01.2022 Just in case some of you are thinking that I have slackened off during this time of Covid - 19, I'm here to tell you that, to the contrary, I am on the home straight with my sequel to Forget Me Not. Here is a little teaser to re-kindle your interest. The sun was hot as Jess laboured underneath the apricot tree, and wiping the perspiration from her brow, she heard Jack saying, 'Jess, have you taken leave of your senses?' She smiled as she pictured him taking the rake from her ...hands, and leaning over to plant a kiss on her perspiring forehead.'Go inside and let me do this.' "Jess, did you hear me?" "Jack!" His name quivered on her breath. Jess turned, hardly believing her ears. A figure strode towards her. The sun was in her eyes, so she shielded them with one hand, while she rested the shovel against the tree trunk. Her heart was beating a tattoo in her breast. Jess felt hands on her arms, and she cried out, "Jack!" "No, Jess, I am not Jack!" See more

02.01.2022 A teaser from 'The Journey Continues'. A hot breeze buffeted the red geraniums that grew beside the brick wall of the Bendigo Railway Station, and sent dry leaves swirling around the feet of passengers as they waited for the morning train from Swan Hill. Conversations were at a minimum; a quiet murmur broke the silence. "I hate this place,"said Jess, almost to herself. "Why is that, Jess?" "It's where everybody says goodbye." A tear slid, unchecked down her pale cheek.

02.01.2022 Forget Me Not, A Story of Love, Loss and Enduring Friendships in a Time of War. By Valmai R. Harris. As a musician/composer, I have recently turned my love of words into my first novel, 'Forget Me Not.' For a copy email: [email protected] It is September 1916, and Jack Stanley has enlisted to go and fight in a war on the other side of the world, leaving behind his wife, Jess, and their 3 children. We follow Jack and his close-knit group of mates, through the mont...hs of gruelling training before they finally reach the battlefields of France, and discover for themselves, the harsh reality of war. Meanwhile, Jess is dealing with issues at home, while she waits for news from the Front. Her chance encounter with an itinerant ex-soldier, leads her into situations she could not possibly have imagined, with catastrophic results. Finally the war ends in November 1918, and the long anticipated homecoming takes an unexpected turn. See more
