19.01.2022 Lettuce Pray, Salad for your Soul Based on the Lectionary readings for Sunday 10th January 2021 Epiphany and Baptism of Jesus. Year B Copyright Jacob van Gent 2021 Monday 4th January 2021. Read Genesis 1:1. Take some time to reflect exactly what this first sentence in the Bible means to you. Where does it sit with evolution, or the big bang theory (not the TV show)? Does it need to fit in with science? Look around and see, feel, smell, God's creation. Praise God.... Tuesday 5th January 2021. Read Genesis 1:2-5. Out of nothing God created the Earth and the heavens. He made light and dark and called them day and night. Maybe you are feeling as if you are nothing - Let God create a new you. Turn to Jesus Christ and be renewed in Him. Give thanks to God for His creation. Wednesday6th January 2021. (Epiphany) Read Matthew 2:1-12. What gift can you give to the Gift from God, the Father? All God wants is YOU. God’s Gift is there for you to receive. Accept it with joy and thanks. Thursday 7th January 2021. Read Psalm 29:1-11. In a nutshell - God is everywhere, in all things, and is all powerful. Friday 8th January 2021. Read Mark 1:4-11. Imagine yourself as John the Baptist. There you are Baptising all who come and repent, suddenly the Lord Himself appears wanting to be Baptised by you. Awesome. And then the Holy Spirit and a voice came from heaven- even more awesome. Saturday 9th January 2021. Read Acts 19:1-3. John the Baptist had followers (Disciples). He Baptised them and they went around spreading repentance and faith in the One who comes after him. Paul is travelling around Baptising in the name of Jesus Christ and fulfilling his calling. Our calling is to tell the world about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Sunday 10th January 2021. Read Acts 19:4-7. The Baptism part speaks for itself. The Holy Spirit coming upon them is also part of the Baptism, giving us power and gifts beyond what we could imagine. These 12 or so men were gifted with the ability to speak in other languages and to prophesy. What gift have you received. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." Mark 1:11 NIV
02.01.2022 Lettuce Pray - Salad for your Soul Devotions based on the Lectionary readings for Sunday 14th January 2121 Epiphany 2, Sunday 2 ... Jacob van Gent 2121 Monday 11th January 2121. Read 1 Samuel 3:1-6. I believe we are in a time where the word of the Lord is rare and prophetic visions are sporadic. Is it because people are so busy that they don't recognise the Lord talking to them? Do we block out God from our lives? Read on. Tuesday 12th January 2121 Read 1 Samuel 3:7-10. Listen out for the Lord. God is wanting us to listen. Instead of talking in your prayers, just say "Speak Lord, your servant is Listening" and then be quiet and listen. Try a 30 Minute pray of 3 minutes of talking and 27 minutes listening. Wednesday 13th January 2121 Read John 1:43-46. When God speaks, and we actually listen, we may question what His plan is. Can anything good come out of what God is suggesting? We may question God, not arrogantly, but with wonder. Thursday 14th January 2121. Read psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 God knows us inside out. God knows all, sees all and saves all. God made us. Listen to Him. Friday 15th January 2121. Read John 1:47-51. We may well ask "How do you know me?" God created us, every part of us, God knows us, what we think, where we are, etc. Acknowledge God and say to Jesus, Gods' Son, "You are the Son of God". Accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord. Saturday 16th January 2121. Read 1 Corinthians 6:12-17. It is hard to resist temptation at times. Hard not to let something, or someone, control you. Take a break, pray, listen to God, and let Him point out where you could serve Him better. Now ask Jesus to take control and allow Him to guide you. Listen to Him. Sunday 17th January 2121. Read 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. I all things we do, we should do it to the glory of God, who has allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer for us and die, so that we will live. Flee from anything sinful and listen to God. He is inside you. God knows you, cares for you, and the Holy Spirit is in you. So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 1 Samuel 3:9 NIV
