Dramatic orchestral music is the perfect sorcery to amplify an already powerful section of the song, but I believe that there shou...ld be adequate treatment of the orchestra itself too! It's not just a "strings pad 01" keyboard bash, orchestras are fully-fledged sections of independent musicians working together, and should be scored as such. Even in saying that, simple is best, so I've stuck to mostly triadic writing for each section of the orchestra (upper/lower strings, winds, upper/lower brass), which still makes for an absolutely CHONKY cake. 03.01.2022 It has been one month since the horrific terrorist attack in New Zealand. My initial reaction was one of anger, followed quickly by rage in light of the justifi...cations certain people made (especially one in particular in the Australian government), which settled into a stony resolve to try to do something about the systemic issues that plague our country, our planet. But I'm just a musician, just a creative voice. I felt that besides voting and being vocal about issues of contention where and when they happened was, I should do more but couldn't. Then, one day, trying to cool down from seeing and addressing yet more ignorant, uneducated, hate-filled diatribe, I settled down to meditate and realised its effect on me. I wasn't filled with peace but at least, for a moment, I could relax my mind's concerns and remembered that these people who were so filled with justified fear and fury were, indeed, people. Today, if not every day you feel weighted down by these attacks (not just in New Zealand, not just against Muslim, Christian, Jewish communities, but inflicted upon any and all victims of terrorism), I invite you to join me in meditation. I recorded this with the lights down, eyes closed and hands resting on my piano, and let my thoughts run their course; as this piece ended up 15 minutes in length, I felt it the perfect length for a form of guided meditation. Even if you've never done it before, allow yourself to 'swim' amongst the sound, and find some peace. . . . . . .
