25.01.2022 Due to the Governments decision to end net fishing, the price of bait has risen to accomodate the new restrictions and restraints imposed. Bait prices are now as follows: IQF Pilchards $6.00 per kg... Salted Pilchards $7.00 per kg Salted Whitebait $7.00 per kg This rise will enable us to continue sustainable fishing and supplying you with fresh bait as we have chosen to stay. Thank you for your ongoing support.

23.01.2022 8 facts about the commercial netting ban: (1) Port Phillip Bay's commercial fisheries have been in operation for over 170 years (2) These fisheries are mainly f...amily-run, small-scale operators supplying fresh seafood to Melbourne's fish shops, restaurants, caterers and markets (3) Commercial net fishing practices have proven to be passive, low impact and sustainable by international and national organisations, including the Australian Conservation Foundation (4) Research shows that 85 to 100% of discards from commercial nets survive, with minimal effects on seagrass beds (5) In 2000, there were 115 licences in the bay; there were 42 at the time of the ban in 2015 with total annual catch declining by 63% as a result. Now there are only 9 fisheries remaining (6) At the time of the ban, many people were employed in the sector including the fishers, processors, wholesalers and retailers (7) The Department of Agriculture and the Victorian Fisheries Authority estimated that recreational fisherman take up to 600 tonnes of snapper per year, while commercial fishermen caught only 120 tonnes i.e. 80% of the snapper caught was taken by 12% of the population (8) This bi-partisan ban was proposed and put into effect without considering the scientific evidence

15.01.2022 Did anyone see Four Corners last night? The investigation revealed what the program described as "some of the worst biosecurity breaches in Australian history" - ruthless seafood importers who have been deliberately evading Australia's biosecurity defences in a hunt for profit and in doing so exploiting a quarantine regime identified as "remarkably naive". Another reason why shutting down our (biosecure) local fishing industries is needless and already causing way more harm than the government could probably imagine.
