And from your Captain here: 'Upload your photo of you dressed as a pirate to our page on International Talk Like a Pirate Day Sept 19'. Ahoy mates! Yes, it HAS been a while since you've heard from the Pirate Guys. Twice this spring I prepared an edition of The Poopdeck, and each time had to scrap it because events made the contents moot. One after another the pirate festivals and events big and small aroun...d the country that I'd planned to write about were getting canceled for the year. It's been a strange year for pirates, hasn't it? Well, for everyone, of course, but I'm a "gentleman rover," so I'm talking pirates here. The rest of the world has been in quarantine. For pirates, it's more like being marooned, sitting on a lonely beach, listening to naught but the waves crashing on the shore. But we're a little more than a month away from a buccaneer bachanal that everyone can take part in, no matter how long the quarantine lasts. I refer, of course, to International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Just like every year it will be held Sept. 19. That's a Saturday this year, and it would be great if we were able to get together to celebrate, but that's probably not in the cards. Still, there's nothing to stop us from talking like pirates and babbling like buccaneers with family or at work or simply online just for the sheer, anarchic fun of it.
