23.01.2022 How many colours are you having for dinner tonight?

22.01.2022 If you've ever forked out a small fortune for "cleanses" or detox products like the lemon detox diet or teatox I think you'll find this very interesting. Read right to the end - it's a very good summary of the myth of the "detox"!

21.01.2022 Santa gave us ice-block moulds for Christmas & as I was searching for recipe inspiration I came across this one which I can't wait to try! You don't need to cut all your favourite foods from your diet - make it yourself so you can control & know exactly what's in it. Bon Appetit!

21.01.2022 So excited about picking up this crate of cherries which are definitely one of my favourite festive foods did you know that cherries are low cal? They are a great alternative to other festive sweets on offer at this time of year. There are only 50 cals in 25 cherries! To give you some perspective 50 cals is the equivalent to 1/2 of just one rum ball & a 1/4 of one small mince pie!!

21.01.2022 Need I say anymore...

20.01.2022 I had the pleasure of meeting Maryl-Ann, the Dietitian at Lite'n'Easy this week & I learnt 3 things I honestly never knew about the company: 1. They are passionate about making everything just the way you would in your own kitchen, no preservatives or funny additives, just good old fashioned home-cooking with whole foods 2. Most of their packaging is either biodegradable or recyclable 3. Maryl-Ann is determined to get creative with getting more veggies into Australians in a way that is delicious & nutritious! I loved my veggies at breakfast this morning! #liteneasylifestyle

20.01.2022 This is what dietitians do with coconut oil...#ionlyeatextravirginoliveoil #homemadebodyscrub

19.01.2022 It's National Nutrition Week! An alarming 95% of Australians aren't eating enough fruits and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants which all help keep our minds and bodies working day-to-day, and reduce our risk of chronic disease in the future.... Eating a variety of colourful produce is one of the easiest things we can do to improve our health and wellbeing. For more information, visit www.pickrightfeelbright.com or www.nutritionaustralia.org to take the Try For 5 challenge to eat 5 serves of vegetables a day. #nutritionweek #tryforfive

17.01.2022 Do you discard the liquid on top of your yoghurt? Did you know that it is called Whey? Yes - as in Little Miss Muffet & her curds & whey! Whey is a source of calcium & protein & it thickens the yoghurt when mixed back in

16.01.2022 Dietitians Day is THE conference for Accredited Practicing Dietitian's! What a treat to have fellow dietitian Dr Joanna McMillan chairing! Get registering APD's! #dietitiansday2016 #dietitianconnection

15.01.2022 How delicious are antioxidants, vitamins, fibre, omega 3 fatty acids, protein & live cultures! what are you snacking on today?

14.01.2022 A client looked at me with complete shock this morning when I said I eat cheese most days. As if I've committed a crime against my profession! It's NOT about any SINGLE food or nutrient people!! It's about that food or nutrient in the context of the rest of your diet! By the way, this is how I eat my cheese...it's not on a pizza or on a salty cracker #ieatcheeseallthetimeandibloodyloveit

11.01.2022 Looking for a way to enjoy flavoured water without added sugars or artificial sweeteners? Try an infusion! Naturally flavour water with fruit, herbs & spices for a healthy, hydrating & refreshing drink! Some of my favourite flavour combinations are strawberry & lemon, cucumber & mint and orange & cinnamon but the flavour combinations are endless! How to make: 1. Slice or quarter about a handfuls worth of fruit & grab a few sprigs or leaves of herbs & place in a water jug or large bottle 2. Boil the kettle & fill up the jug (the hot water draws out more flavour than cold) 3. Give it a good stir with a wooden spoon & put the jug in the fridge to cool 4. Drink when chilled & enjoy! Easy!

09.01.2022 WHAT AREN'T YOU EATING THAT YOU SHOULD BE? People ALWAYS say to me "I eat too much of this" or "I eat too much of that" & "I just need to eat less!". My response is always, "So then what aren't you eating?". ... If you're filling up on foods or fluids that aren't providing your body any goodness, then ask yourself: What aren't I eating? Chances are you are MISSING OUT on ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS. The next time you reach for a chocolate biscuit at snack time, pause & ask yourself "What haven't I had today?". I do a mental check list to make sure I've ticked off all the core food groups before indulging in foods that are low nutrient (I know - I'm a nutrition nerd!): 1. Wholegrains for B vitamins, energy & fibre 2. Fruit & Vegetables for antioxidants, vitamins & minerals 5. Dairy for calcium & protein 5. Meats, fish, legumes & nuts for protein, essential fatty acids & trace elements like selenium There is so much focus on dietary restriction - instead why not focus on what you need to EAT MORE of!

06.01.2022 The Christmas season sure has sprung up on us! I've always loved this time of year, sending & receiving Christmas cards, houses lit up in fairy lights & yes, even the carols on re-run at my local Westfield! A lot of my clients say that they dread the festive season & the celebrations as they aren't sure how they can enjoy all the social eating & drinking without un-doing all of their hard work to lose weight during the year. I thought I'd share this great article by Dietitian Trudy Williams which perfectly sums up a healthy & enjoyable approach to the festive season. Let go of the guilt & ENJOY the festivities - MUST READ ARTICLE!

04.01.2022 I was joking about this with someone today...we've all done it! But what if your new "diet" wasn't restrictive & included your favourite foods? Would you still feel the need to over-eat them? Could you enjoy just a little everyday? An Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Program approach gives you back the freedom to enjoy ALL foods & forget about restrictive & inflexible eating!

03.01.2022 Skip the salt, sugar, preservatives & artificial colours & flavours & make fajita spice mix yourself! Simply combine equal amounts of smoky paprika & cumin. That really is it! Use in place of commercial spice mix's as you normally would. I tested this on my fussy husband & he loved it!

01.01.2022 The old all or nothing approach which NEVER works!!
