25.01.2022 Wow! How amazing is this? Congratulations Aussie Ark for this wonderful initiative and thank you! I love your enthusiasm and energy. Everything is crossed for continued success for our little devils Get behind this story wildlife lovers. Visit their site at www.aussieark.org.au for more information. ... A beautiful positive story to make you feel all warm and fuzzy

25.01.2022 My current daily view! I’ve been somewhat occupied with a completely unplanned NEW agenda the past 6 weeks and not one brush stroke has managed to hit a piece of paper. And if I’m completely honest....painting is not the highest priority on my ‘to do’ list right now. But these two are! ... Our daily routine has been completely flipped. Motherhood, maintaining an Art career, sole parenting and juggling life’s financial pressures was challenging enough but add in some homeschooling, social restrictions and MORE financial woes....let’s just say life didn’t just hand us a lemon...it actually dumped a truckload of lemons in the driveway! Thank goodness for the simple things that balance it out right? Video chats with friends, extra long LEGO sessions, movie marathons, playing with chickens, daily gardening and extra EXTRA long cuddles (all of which are now adding to the long list of new norms)! Despite joking about ‘already being in training’ for isolation prior to COVID-19 (and quietly welcoming a much needed rest from my previous gallery life), the transition hasn’t completely been a smooth one. But...I could not be more proud of my girls (and all the other little people of the world) who have had their worlds turned upside down and literally doing their best to hold it together. (Or sometimes not). Absolute little hero’s to accept what just has to be the new normal. I may not have the time to paint or even slightly have the capacity to process what to paint next, but I have had time to appreciate the simplicity of how life CAN be! I’ve also been fortunate to have a few print sales that have kept the wheels turning. To those amazing humans who have recently purchased my new ‘whale migration’ print despite the economic crisis...I am extremely grateful (you know who you are ). To squeeze any ‘work time’ in, I’ve been burning the candle LATE into the evenings....mainly updating my NEW website. In the coming weeks I hope to add a few tutorials and some blog posts. I would love you to head over to www.vanessarichardsonart.com and take a look around or share with your friends. You can also send in a submission to be added to the mailing list. The website is still a WIP but I would love some feedback. Keep staying home and staying strong! #studiolife #fortresstasmania #lifegaveuslemons #stayhome #2020challenges #2020heros #littlelegends

24.01.2022 This year, the humpback whale migration down the East Coast has been PHENOMENAL! It also seems like so many people have experienced the pure joy of seeing these amazing animals up close...many for the first time I am so lucky I live so close to the ocean with stunning views...perfect viewing to spot the breaching parties going on! ... I would love to hear about your Whaley cool encounters so far for 2020! My youngest, Miss Jessie, saw her first whale breach just off shore near Governors Island. Pure joy and amazement filled every part of her face! 24.01.2022 A new series is well underway! This beautiful Masked owl was a resident @eastcoastnatureworld several years ago. We are so lucky to have caring individuals in our community. Jacqui and Steve purchased @eastcoastnatureworld last year and like so many businesses, have no doubt felt the effects of shut downs.....but it’s SCHOOL HOLIDAYS! The park is open and has LOADS of space to spread out, engage with some crazy tassie critters and they have some wonderful informative talks ...about our beautiful wildlife. I’ll definitely be visiting with my kids (probably more than once ) and taking the camera to capture some more references! Here’s a test....(or get the kids onto some holiday research ) .......can you name all of Tasmania’s Raptor species?....... And.....GO! 15.01.2022 Does Tasmania inspire you? Inform your work and creativity? Then be part of our inaugural exhibition celebrating this amazing place and her fauna, flora and peo...ple and get your entries in for the Artist in Residence Trail Tasmania in charming Deloraine, Tasmania from October 24th to November 8th, 2020. The themes for the Exhibition include: Rivers of Life, Mountain Inspirations, Wildlife Wonders and Vibrant Communities with works to be inspired by northern Tasmania. The range of media for the exhibition is varied and includes textiles, paintings, sculpture, woodwork, prints and woodwork. Because of Covid-19 travel restrictions the Art in Residence Trail has had a very different start to life than we anticipated but we decided that the Exhibition could still go ahead as so many artists and artisans across Australia have work that is inspired by this beautiful region of Tasmania. The exhibition is being held over three locations in Deloraine: Art as Mania, Highland Felting and Fibre Supplies and Cycles at The Empire Hotel. Entries need to have been completed since 2016, including this year, and in the medium preferred by the artist that aligns to one of the four themes. Due to Facebook restrictions we'll include website links for the entry form and more details in the comments below. We do hope you join us with this exciting free exhibition and send in your entries in your preferred medium.

12.01.2022 STUDIO DAY Favourite land dwelling inhabitant! EAGLES The largest bird of prey in Australia. ... Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles have been isolated for 10 000yrs from their mainland and have become a seperate subspecies. It is estimated to be only 130 pairs successfully breeding each year in Tasmania. They are listed as ENDANGERED. They are a massive bird with a wing span of up to 2.2 metres. There is a lot to be done to help raise awareness and to protect these stunning birds. One way we can help as individuals is support organisations like www.raptorrefuge.com.au Craig and his amazing team do some inspiring work to protect and rehabilitate injured birds. I’d encourage all fellow raptor lovers to do a tour, become a member or supporter of the raptor refuge. The top image was a prize winning piece, and remain here in Tasmania. The image had been in my mine for several years. Being relatively’new’ to actually selling my workto the public, I was always focussed on producing smaller works. Well, that’s what I was lead to believe, often being told by others to ‘stick to small pieces to suit the tourist market...they are easier to sell’. But this one just had to come out of my brain and onto the paper! The BIGGEST watercolour I had ever done. That decision paid off! I entered this in a Wildlife Art Comp and won! Since then, most of my work has been ‘large format’ originals and I just love doing them. The image below is a current work in progress. (It has been ‘benched’ for many weeks...but....today, this one will get some more feathers I look forward to revealing the completed painting soon. 11.01.2022 A quick snap of me finishing off this beautiful piece. (Photo taken by my youngest . She said she had to take a picture because she was excited for me to be nearly finished ) I’m looking forward to seeing the proof prints. It has taken waaayyy too long to complete. Too many other things distracting it’s completion but all fun things! Gardening, landscaping, hugging chickens, beach combing, school netball comps, visiting my bestie (first time in months), cuddling her baby (...and resisting the urge to kidnap him ) end of term assembly and a couple of self indulgent, online fibre workshops. And now SCHOOL HOLIDAYS! 10.01.2022 ***NEW PRINT ALERT*** Almost ready! As usual...the reproduction quality of my work is just superb thanks to Full Gamut. This one looks amazing! The White Bellied Sea Eagles are local residents in my beautiful home town! We even have some impressive active nest sites. A late afternoon fishing expedition for one of our locals usually results in a ‘fly by’ our house to show off his catch! ... Tasmania’s coastline has many rivers, bays and islands that provide ideal habitats for sea eagles. They are largely sedentary and will defend an area of about 3 km2 around their nest. Sea Eagles are not actually ‘true’ Eagles, but giant kites. They have a wingspan of approximately 2metres and YES they are a vulnerable species. The fantastic ‘action’ photograph reference was supplied by Dean Hohn. 09.01.2022 My youngest has been growing her hair now for over 18months. Pre COVID, we were having a conversation about cancer, reminiscing about a few people who we loved dearly. It seems no one is immune from knowing ‘someone’, and we have since lost a couple of family members to cancer and know others just beginning their journey too. The big ‘C’ conversation was triggered by a night time ritual. Jessie has a quilted cot blanket made by my Aunty Val. We lost Val a few years ago now.... The quilted blanket is never off Jessie’s bed. Even when it’s too hot, she folds it neatly and places it at the foot of the bed. One night she asked me: Mum, can kids get cancer?.....hence the conversation began. We started doing some research into organisations/fundraisers that support kids going through the cancer journey and Jessie was inspired to do something to help. So here it is. I’m so proud of her. She has the biggest heart and we love her to bits. I wanted to share her fundraiser with you. If you are in the position to support this amazing cause please follow the link: Wigs 4 kids or feel free to share with your Facebook family Thank you

But becoming a mum was the best Mother’s Day gift EVER! I was lucky to have given birth to my eldest child the evening before Mother’s Day. It was an overwhelming feeling of utter love, joy (and perhaps a bit of fear) to wake up, Mothers Day morning with a newborn baby . That was 12 years ago! This year her 12th birthday falls on Sunday.....MOTHERS DAY! #mothersdaygift #mothersday #bicheno #wildlife #vanessarichardsonart #fineartprint

07.01.2022 ‘Gift to self’ has just arrived! I’m a huge fan of Darren Jew’s photography work. Always have been since the first time I saw it up close at an exhibition at ...Cradle Mountain wilderness gallery years ago. I still remember standing there, feet fused to the floor in absolute awe! A couple of years later we were killing time wandering through a gift shop, only moments away from walking through the hospital doors to do our first IVF transfer. I came across a little turtle print...a Darren Jew, it was titled...new beginnings! It was a ‘gift to self’...and a hope of ‘that new beginning’ becoming a reality! And it did...a few weeks later we had the news our little embryo had ‘stuck’ and I was going to be a mum! Life is never perfect! But there are defining moments in life when a brief moment can change everything or push you in a new direction, or you start a new chapter, or just reflect on what you are passionate about, your achievements! Darren and I became friends after joining his whale swimming adventures...twice now! And I always say it’s the 3rd best thing I’ve ever done! (Nothing will top giving birth to my 2 girls ) I love knowing an artists philosophy, what they are passionate about, what drives their story or their song lines! After listening to many live chats, podcasts and topical discussions the last few months, I absolutely connect with those who are making a difference at a #thinkgloballyactlocally level, and using their ‘craft’ to do so. It certainly fits with how I see myself as an artist and my own creative drive! This little collection of prints by Darren does exactly that. What an amazing initiative. You can learn more by visiting www.rainforestrescue.org.au #rainforest2reef! Another place on the bucket list! Beautiful work! The original ‘new beginnings’ turtle print was permanently ‘acquired’ by little miss turtle lover....and she has just been ‘gifted’ the (extra) second set of prints I received from Darren....I know they will be treasured!

07.01.2022 ‘Taking Flight’ - Original Watercolour Painting Also available in limited edition/25 A1 fine art prints. The colours of an East Coast Autumn.... Visit www.vanessarichardsonart.com I witnessed this actually happening in real life....a brown falcon launching from a winery post at Spring Vale Vinyard. But I was too slow doing a U-turn and bolting from the car with camera in hand. So at the time I just photographed the post with the green leaves. It was a while before I ‘captured’ a brown falcon taking flight to recreate the vision that I had witnessed. But the green leaves of the original vines just didn’t work. Then, along came Autumn AND there it was! A composition that I loved! That’s the ‘artistic license’ part of how I create a composition What is your favourite season and why? 05.01.2022 NEW PROJECT Chain of Hearts! This is my FAVOURITE indoor plant and it always reminds me of my mum and my grandmother (Mama). Mama’s was massive. It was placed high on a shelf in her kitchen and reached the floor. Just a mass of gorgeous tiny hearts.... My mum gave me this one about 18months ago. It was just a small thread of hearts and it has finally taken off. With so many of us spending more time perfecting our ‘green thumbs’, what has been happening in your garden? What’s your favourite plant? Your favourite may just be one of my inspirations too. I’m excited to finally be working on a very new project; something I’ve been wanting to tackle for a VERY long time. 02.01.2022 Something a little different! I was asked recently to do a commission of this entire feathered and fur baby family. When I arrived to photograph them all for referencing, they were certainly not all posing like this! ... So the challenge for this one was taking a reference photo in the right ‘position’ that could be used to compose an ‘all in one’ image while trying to maintain their individual personalities. Easy right? Hahaha. No, that’s why it was a challenge! But I absolutely love the end result and I love black and whites. They just never date! The brief was: - black and white - a touch of colour - large format - for the nursery This piece is approximately 100cm x 70cm, graphite and coloured pencil. It was also intended for their nursery, recently welcoming the most adorable baby girl to their family.
