21.01.2022 Put your hand on your heart & acknowledge your courage to heal wonderful reminders from Em @thenurturefoundation for grounding and self regulating after a therapy session. I often recommend clients take an hour or two where possible to engage in self care after a session, particularly if the session has felt quite emotional and triggering. 18.01.2022 This corona virus has simplified our lives very quickly. Practicing gratitude right now can help us recognise in the midst of the uncertainty, chaos and fear, that there are still many things in our lives that we can feel grateful for. Its often the most simple things that bring us the most joy, calm, inner peace and sense of safety. Look around you.... Name 2 things you are grateful for today? #covid_19 #socialconnection #resilience #mindfullness #gratitude

17.01.2022 Becoming a parent (for the first or subsequent times) can be stressful and new or expecting parents experience a rollercoaster of emotions during pregnancy and ...early parenthood. Women and their partners may experience feelings such as sadness, fear and nervousness. Some people develop more distressing anxiety or depression which can affect daily life and functioning. With the backdrop of the current COVID crisis, more parents than usual may be suffering. Perinatal mental health issues are very treatable and families are encouraged to seek help from professionals. Making a call to the PANDA Helpline can be a great first step (1300 726 306). We are also lucky to have heard from Vanessa Staub from @the_bewellcollective last week. Vanessa provided some advice on optimising perinatal mental health by implementing some simple daily strategies (second pic). The full PDF provided by Vanessa is available on our MPPP Mums & Bubs Facebook page. You can also reach out to Vanessa on Instagram at @the_bewellcollective If you, or a loved one, are experiencing a challenging time, we encourage you, now more than ever, to reach out and make contact with a health professional. #pregnancy #pregnancysupport #facebook #pregnant #onlinecommunity #healthprofessionals #specialist #mumsandbubs #community #mothersgroup #newborn #prenatalclass #postnatalclass #lockdown #covid #letusknow #womenshealthphysio #physiotherapist #mothersgroup

16.01.2022 Loving, stable connections are a major protective factor that help create a softer landing for the emotional thud of experiencing trauma. There are many Individuals for many differing reasons right now that are going to be significantly impacted emotionally and experience trauma from covid-19. It has never been a more important time to connect, check in, and provide each other support to ensure all our basic human needs are met. Food, safe shelter, a community to lean on. An...d parents, the very best thing you can do for your children right now is to focus on you being as emotionally regulated as possible, and to be emotionally attuned and connected with your children. As we ride out this virus, we need to be ensuring that we are creating an emotionally stable, secure, loving, responsive environment for our children that acknowledges and responds to all emotional needs. Loving secure parental attachment in childhood trumps trauma. #connectiontrumpstrauma #attachmenttrumpstrauma #traumawareness #traumaprotectivefactors #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthcaretips #psychologist #melbournepsychologist #psychologistsofinstagram See more

16.01.2022 Current unemployment, financial stress, isolation, and increased use of drugs and alcohol to cope, will increase family violence in our community, and escalate violence in the homes of Individuals and families already experiencing DV. Not everybodys home is safe. Please look out for your loved ones if you think they may be at risk. Please take steps to support yourself and report violence if you are at risk. #domesticviolence #covid_19 @the.australian

14.01.2022 Many people are not feeling okay right now fluctuating between trying to function day to day while navigating many big overwhelming emotions. I really like this graphic from @keeleyshawart. There are some great ideas here, to help you check in with loved ones to encourage open conversations, and ideas that can help you look inwards and locate the what and why of how you are feeling. Do any of the questions resonate with you right now? I particularly like: What are your top... three feelings today? What colour is your heart today? Why? Sometimes these types of questions can make people feel uncomfortable or confronted because they really encourage you focus in on going deep into your emotional state. If it feels that way for you it can help to write the answers to some of these questions down, take a break, practice some meditation or deep breathing, go for a walk, and then come back to them at a later time in the day when your body is feeling calmer. Working with a mental health professional to support you with overwhelming thoughts and emotions can also be very helpful. 08.01.2022 Beautiful words from my wise beautiful friend @julieodo77 Physical distance is necessary right now. And it all feels a bit overwhelming....but it doesnt need to feel like a complete emotional disconnection. Being away from each other physically right now is crucial for our health. Staying connected with each other has never been more important. It is crucial for our mental health. And face to face time is best. So time to get creative and start thinking about how we can k...eep connecting. Telephone conversations have not been cancelled; video/face time conversations have not been cancelled. Allocate an hour each day to see/speak with friends and loved ones. And try to allocate 10 minutes only to discussing covid-19, and then switch focus to other things/hobbies/interests/funny random happenings in your life. If you are finding that you are needing to talk a lot about covid-19 and how its impacting your life, and you are feeling quite distressed, overwhelmed, having difficulty sleeping, eating, and with general functioning, thats okay and to be expected. This virus has thrown us as Individuals and a collective society, massive challenges. Depending on your Individual circumstances the impact on everyones reactions, feelings, and ways for coping and going to look and feel varied and very different. Remember Psychologists are still here. We are still available to support you online. There are some great online video consultation programs that we are now utilising that are easy to navigate, and still feel like an in-person face to face consultation. Please be sure to reach out to a mental health professional if you need support. #socialdistancing #socialconnection #covid_19 #mentalhealthtips #psychology #therapy #telehealth #melbournepsychologist #vanessastaubpsychology #psychologistsofinstagram

03.01.2022 This quote from @lisaoliveratherapy reminds me of the importance of honouring yourself and meeting your needs. Being still, sitting, reflecting, acknowledging, feeling, can be incredibly healing & help you make life choices that are emotionally healthy and healing. How are you being still today? What are you acknowledging? What are you feeling? I woke up with a very sore back and feeling Meh. Its been a busy week with lots of juggling. So I decided I needed to take it real...ly slow. I am still in my pyjamas (its 12pm here in Melbourne). Ive allowed myself to feel meh and sit with it. Instead of rushing around and tackling a number of household chores, I have chosen instead to spend the morning at a much slower pace. I have been practicing deep breathing. I have been sitting quietly outside, reflecting on the week (with some chocolate and a cup of green tea ). Reflecting, thinking, feeling my way through the week and how certain events have triggered different thoughts and emotions. By allowing myself to slow down, be still, sit with my thoughts, acknowledge how I am feeling, and honour this, my mind feels calmer, clearer. I now have more energy for the rest of the day. (I still have a sore back, but coincidently now not as sore! ). How do you plan to slow down, self regulate, and honour yourself today? We all have valid needs, thoughts and emotions. Make sure you are acknowledging and honouring yours #healing #slowdown #selfawareness #selfawakening #growth #honouryourselfalways
