09.01.2022 Hey Officials As the slow return to playing volleyball expands across Australia, below are some suggestions for officials to consider. Please ensure you check your local association requirements, and following all government regulations. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone on and around the courts soon. Be aware of your associations ball sanitation and cleanliness ... requirements Use electronic whistles; or manual squeeze whistle; or normal whistle with mask protection option. Disinfectant wipes and hand sanitiser should be available at playing court Balls must be sanitised prior to use, at regular intervals and interruptions and after the activity Disinfectant wipes must be properly disposed of immediately after use Use face masks at times when maintaining social distancing in not possible (e.g. debriefing with assessor/mentors, coin toss, etc...) Supply your own drink bottle, hand towel, sanction cards, ball gauge, tossing coin, pens. Do not use public drink fountains Do not share food, snacks or drinks Do not use public facilities (toilets, change rooms) unless strict cleaning instruction are available If using glasses, head bands, etc; hand sanitise after every time these facial items are touched Wash hands thoroughly or use hand sanitiser upon arriving at the playing court, during intervals / interruptions and after each activity session In accordance with the AIS framework for rebooting sport; shower thoroughly after participating in an activity Organisers will maintain a register of attendance, scoresheets will assist so ensure all players, coaches, team staff and officials are fully recorded. 06.01.2022 Applications for VA L3 and L4* Referee Accreditation Upgrades are closing soon on the 30th September. Level 3 and Level 4* officials are considered national referees and approved by VARC. At this level it is a recommendation that officials get involved in other areas of officiating such as mentoring, course presenting and assessing. Level 3 accredited referees will be registered on the FIVB database as Australian national referees. Officials must demonstrate competency in bot...h theory and practical components and must provide evidence to VARC in order to be considered for upgrade. A referee can be considered for an upgrade as a Volleyball Australia Level 3 or Level 4* Referee when they successfully complete the following requirements: -The candidate must be at least 16(L3) or 18(L4) years old to be eligible for this accreditation -The candidate must have a current VA Referee Accreditation -Be a registered member of your State Volleyball Association -Provide a letter of endorsement from your State Association -Complete the Play by the Rules Child Protection and Harassment & Discrimination Online Courses. -Meet the required competencies for a level 3 or Level 4* Referee -Agree and sign the VA Officials' Code of Behaviour *Please note, the level 4 accreditation is currently managed by Volleyball Australia in conjunction with Volleyball Australia’s Referee committee and application is via invitation only. Upgrades are considered biannually with applications closing on the 30 April and 30 September each year. Please note it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their application is received before the closing date.
