24.01.2022 After 6 incredible days of riding, through some gloriously green country, we are beyond proud to announce that this year's Variety Postie Bike Dash has raised in excess of $220,000 to support kids in need in NSW and the ACT! We knew 2020 had been a hard year for fundraising for the Dashers but this outstanding result is a tribute to how hard they have all worked. Every single Dasher should be proud of what they have achieved for kids. First National Real Estate Tamex Transport Australia Post
24.01.2022 After a year of planning, a group of 35 amazing adventure riders travelled 2,700km in hot and dusty conditions, an afternoon visit to Cameron Corner and the salt pans, a lot of laughs and raising over $100,000 for kids in need. What a week! In particular, we’d like to thank the event’s major donors Explore Housing World, The Stag & Hunter Hotel and Gabes Cleaning Property Trades. Your generosity is inspiring. State Medical Assistance once again was along for the trip, keepin...g our riders and officials safe no matter the conditions. Ensuring the safety of our participants on an event is our top priority and there is no one we would trust more with that role than State Medical Assistance. To the volunteer officials who gave countless hours of their own time to make this event as much fun as it was, thank you. Our sincerest thanks to Pickles, who came with us on this journey to create an inaugural event. Signing a sponsorship agreement just weeks before lockdown the Pickles team have been with us every step of the way as we all worked hard to ensure this incredible new event could go ahead. 24.01.2022 Looking for some lockdown/stay at home activities for the kids? Here are a few that the Variety community has shared with us and we had to share the love with you all. 1. CHRISTMAS MOVIES can help pass the time, maybe bring out some old classics like Miracle on 34th street, Home Alone, and The Santa Claus. 2. Who has heard Art for Kids Hub? Have you got creative kids that love to draw? Check out this awesome YouTube channel where kids are taught step by step how to draw ...https://www.youtube.com/user/ArtforKidsHub 3. CHRISTMAS BAKING. Yum. Who doesn't love: Gingerbread houses https://bit.ly/3amJmqe Reindeer cupcakes http://bit.ly/3mxhORj Rum balls for the parents. http://bit.ly/37zRdz2 4. BATH TIME! A bath is a great way to pass the time. Throw in some Tupperware, add some food colouring to some ice cubes the kids can watch them melt, or even having an ice block treat can be fun. 5. BUILD A FORT , grab the dining room chairs, blankets and pillows, the options are endless and can be hours of fun. Stay safe and well!

22.01.2022 If you are planning Christmas celebrations there is a few things you can do to make it more inclusive for people with disabilities. Even just trying to implement a few things to make it a much more enjoyable event for everyone. + Make sure all spaces are accessible + Consider keeping a space free out the front for parking. There is often a lot of equipment to unload + Plan a space so there is plenty of space to move... + Try and keep music levels down so it's not too overwhelming and loud + Consider toileting needs, maybe a bedroom set up for changing + Think about a comfy space people can enjoy outside of their wheelchair, maybe a rug on the floor, it's likely they won't want to be sat in their chair for the day. Make sure it's still somewhere they will be involved in the celebrations + Have a varied menu, this is pretty standard in most households on Christmas day but consider dietary needs and allergies when planning the menu + Unwrapping gifts is hard for some people so try and make it as easy as possible to unwrap. Even get other people involved to help + If you're playing games think about how you can get everyone involved +Be understanding if it's all too much and someone has to leave early or can't attend at all. 21.01.2022 This year for the first time ever, our long term partner Woolworths Supermarkets are rounding up for Variety. This Halloween, stores across NSW and the ACT will be asking customers to round up their bill and donate their spare change to Variety. 'This Friday and Saturday we are inviting our customers to support Variety by rounding up their shopping. For purchases over $30 there will be a prompt to round up to the nearest dollar, and that amount will be donated. Alternatively..., a donation of any amount can be made using the Donation Buttons which are on all our registers year round. Every donation, big or small, helps make a difference' said Loretta Arrastia Woolworths Community Programs Manager. We want to say a huge thank you to Woolworths for continuing to show commitment to those kids and families who are doing it tough. This round up campaign is another example of how a business can use their reach and creativity to make a positive impact in their community. Thank you to Woolworths teams and customers for always going above and beyond for Variety.

19.01.2022 It's World Teacher's Day! In celebration, we wanted to introduce you to one of the incredible teachers we know, Stephen Smith. Stephen has taught in South Western Sydney for 20 years with 14 of those being in Special Education. Now the Assistant Principal at Caroline Chisholm S.S.P, Stephen is incredibly passionate about education and supporting kids. We have the pleasure of knowing Stephen as part of our Grants Committee. "Good teachers inspire students to learn. Great teach...ers go beyond this and recognise the enormous personal struggle that it takes for some students to overcome challenges. They are moved to do everything they can to see all students succeed. They are empathetic and committed to giving every student the best possible education. I have the enormous privilege of being on the Variety Grants Committee. This supports young people right across the state and gives the assistance they need. It makes an enormous difference in the lives of children and their families. Whether it be financial support for school supplies or equipment for children who are sick, from disadvantaged backgrounds or have a disability. Variety has made an enormous difference in my own community by financially supporting an inclusive playground at Bankstown. The dream of our school to have all students playing together was realised through this. Variety has also funded a bus for our school and access an enormous range of great educational experiences. Variety makes a huge difference in the lives of children and powerfully assists individuals and communities to overcome challenges." We want to thank you, Stephen, and all the incredible teachers out there for your commitment to the future of kids. You are amazing! #teachersday AITSL

18.01.2022 We know you want to be there for local kids during hard times kids like Briony and Jacqueline. After a bushfire devastated their farm and home, they then had to face COVID-19 and the shutdown of their school. With only an old computer at home and no money to buy a new one, they were in danger of missing out completely on online school. Thanks to the kindness of our Variety donors, we were able to provide them with a grant for 2 new laptops so they didn't fall behind.... We know you believe every child deserves the best education to unleash their future - and that it would be just wrong for any child to miss out because of where they live, or because they can't afford a computer. Which is why this Christmas, we need your donation to help fund more grants just like the one Briony and Jacqueline received. Please donate today. Your Christmas kindness will help secure a child's future. https://fundraise.varietynswact.org.au/xmas-appeal-fb-organ

An outstanding leader and instrumental in stewarding the organisation through some interesting times (a lot has happened at Variety in those 30 years) there aren't really the words to describe Peter's contribution to Variety. Not only have they been incredibly supportive and committed to kids in need since 2013, they truly helped us in an enormous way this year and we simply couldn't have gotten through 2020 without them. Among several fundraising initiatives they were a Major Event Partner at the Variety Xmas Evening that was held last week for 1,000 kids and their families. Without Woolworths' wonder...ful generosity, this event simply would not have gone ahead. They also supported the Variety Xmas Toy Drive-Thru in Newcastle, what legends! Check out the number of other ways Woolies has helped us out here https://www.variety.org.au//thank-you-woolworths-for-your/ We will always have enormous gratitude for what they've done for us over the years but this year in particular it truly means so much that we have their support.

06.01.2022 Summer is traditionally a time to kick back, relax and have a bit of break from the routine of appointments and therapy sessions. Even if you are taking a break over the holidays, there are ways you can work on key skills without it feeling like 'therapy' for your child. The beach and park offer a number of different opportunities for a work-out while getting valuable fresh air and a natural source of vitamin D. Plus, it's all free (and boy, isn't that a bonus!). 04.01.2022 The wonderfully selfless Elizabeth donated her hair to our Variety Hair with Heart program. She loved the idea of being able to help give the gift of confidence to someone who has lost their hair due to a long term medical condition. Thanks for warming our hearts Elizabeth. 04.01.2022 Shout out to Team @ToshibaANZ led by the extraordinary Les. As one of the longest supporting participants of the Variety B to B Bash Team Toshiba has raised over $2 million for Variety since 1991! Gosh, that's a lot of money for one old car. Fun fact in both our Newcastle and Sydney offices Toshiba have also hooked us up with some pretty fancy printers. The printers have had a bit of a quiet year with us working from home but they are good machines. Check out this incredible ...video about Team Toshiba involved in the Bash or read a little more about it on their website https://www.toshiba-business.com.au//Variety-the-Childrens https://youtu.be/Mj0OO3qdtJM
04.01.2022 Kayla shared with us the reason why she decided to donate her hair. "I have always loved Rapunzel and having long hair. My dance teacher told me I needed to cut my hair as it was affecting my dancing. On my 12th birthday, I decided to cut my hair and donate it to charity as I wanted to help those who needed it more than me." www.hairwithheart.com.au #hairwithheart Lady Jayne Hair

02.01.2022 We get it, if you've never been on a Bash it can be hard to see the appeal. Afterall, we're asking you to buy a 30+ year old car and then drive it in the middle of the outback on some roads that don't really look like old cars should be on them! Until you've done it, its impossible to explain in a social post exactly why we do it ... this video is here to show you! Shout out to @brydenslawyers and @ahanewcastlehunter for their incredible support.
02.01.2022 $330,000 raised! Variety Resurrection Run wasn't just about fun (although it was definitely that) it was also about working together to support kids in need. When we started planning this event we weren't even sure it was going to be allowed to go ahead but this incredible result for kids made all the work by entrants, officials and staff worth it. Thank you for being a part of it and following along. @justinworboysphotography @brydenslawyers @AHANewcastleHunter @SeeleyIntl @gjgardnerhomesaustralia
02.01.2022 It's Friday Funday! Here's a fun activity that you can do at home with the whole family that will get you moving!

01.01.2022 We challenged artist Tara Winona to create an artwork that unleashes Madi's inner magic, but we only gave her a week. Get to know this incredible girl through Tara’s brush #projectunleash Physical contact on screen feels a little odd right now we get it. Tara and Madi got to know each other before lockdown.
