21.01.2022 Motors Tasmania, Parmic, Woolworths, Variety Tasmania and many local businesses, community groups and individuals are joining forces to raise $80,000 to support Isla after her life-saving surgery for Rasmussens Encephalitis. Please join us at Hobart Motors Holden Muster from the 3rd-6th September. Holden Cars through the ages will be on display on the 3rd-6th September and we will be hosting a sausage sizzle on the 5th and 6th September. Isla has a very rare disease called ...Rasmussens Encephalitis. This disease impacts one hemisphere of the brain, where inflammation progressively destroys brain cells, resulting in multiple seizures, loss of vision, cognitive impairment, hemiparesis and if left untreated, the child could die. The only definitive treatment is a hemispherectomy (which is a disconnection of the right-hand side of her brain). This surgery comes with irreversible consequences, including the possibility that Isla will be vision impaired and partially paralysed. Her family have opted to have the surgery at the beginning of September in Melbourne. To donate to the Isla fundraising and find out more about Rasmussens Encephalitis visit: https://tasfundraising.variety.org.au/support-a-fundra/isla

20.01.2022 Douglas is an 8 year old who, like most children his age, loves being on his school trike and being out with his family. Douglas is also challenged with severe autism. He is non-verbal and has sensory issues and reduced mobility due to co-ordination and balance. His family was recently nominated for a relief gift from the Variety Freya Fund. The fund aims to provide families with severely disabled children, who are going through periods of additional need or financial distress, with a financial gift to help relieve some of the pressures they are facing. It is with grateful thanks to our supporters that Variety Tas has been able to assist this Tassie family. Please donate today, so that we may help empower other Tassie kids.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Disabled Surfers Association Tasmania on organising the inaugural and very successful ‘let’s go surfing’ event today! This Tassie-first event, is designed to enable those with disability to have a safe surf experience regardless of their ability. 30 participants (mainly children) and more than 90 volunteers had Clifton Beach buzzing with joy and excitement. Variety Tasmania believes that all activities and facilities must be inclusive particularly for chi...ldren regardless of their ability, background or location, that’s why we proudly support this event and the committee in future events. ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ was realised through the sheer commitment of Shaned, Ian and the rest of the organising committee, with help from many volunteers from DSA clubs on the mainland, some of them came down to offer their expertise and equipment. Such a fantastic job by everyone and for everyone. Disabled Surfers Association Mornington Peninsula Disabled Surfers Association of Australia @Clifton Beach Surf Life Saving Club See more
