23.01.2022 Over the weekend, a fleet of 70 Gippsland based Variety Vic Bash crew embarked on their own Mini Bash to celebrate the reopening of Victoria and spread a little light to kids and communities in need! Close consideration went into the planning, and all efforts were made to be compliant with government restrictions and remain COVID-safe. Representing Variety, the crew called into schools in Neerim, Eagle Point and Bruthen to deliver much needed funding to support kids learning... and wellbeing. As always with any Variety event, there was plenty of flare and fun along the way with a convoy of 23 Variety themed cars making the journey in costume! Three grants were presented over the weekend, with the first $7,000 grant assisting Neerim District Secondary College - Official. Variety funded a designated safe space and therapy area for students that will allow them to take time out from the playground or classroom, help calm and regulate emotions, provide tactile stimulation and support and encourage a positive return to learning. Next up, was Eagle Point Primary School where a $6,600 grant was presented for further improvements to the school’s disabled bathroom. Whilst the bathroom can be accessed by people with disabilities, at present students and those in the community in wheelchairs using the bathroom require someone to open and close the door for them. Installing an automatic door will allow students and those with disabilities the opportunity to use the bathroom completely independently. Last but certainly not least, was Bruthen Primary School who Variety helped earlier in the year in the wake of the 2020 bushfires. This time around, Variety assisted the school to expand their curriculum and incorporate LEGO robotics into their ICT program with a grant to purchase teaching and interactive equipment. We'd like to give a big shout out to all who were involved. In addition to the grants handed out along the way, our crew supported numerous small businesses, local tourism and communities doing it tough in our great state. We are so proud of our Variety family and thankful for all you do for your communities and kids in need! Read more about the Gippsland Mini Bash at: https://www.variety.org.au/vic/news/11961/

23.01.2022 As #AlopeciaAwarenessWeek comes to a close, we wanted to share one more story from a Variety #HairWithHeart wig recipient. Leah used to think having no hair meant she wasn’t the same as other kids, but two Variety wigs later, her self-confidence has grown as much as she has. Wearing a wig gives the eight-year-old a boost of confidence to do all the things other kids do, even presenting news in front of the whole class. Plus, she and her friends share a love of styling their ...hair with fun accessories. Rachel, Leah’s mum, says her daughter has come to understand she is enough just as she is, even without hair all thanks to having access to a Variety wig. To find out more about #HairWithHeart, or donate your hair to be made into a wig for a child in need, head to https://hairwithheart.variety.org.au/

23.01.2022 Briella shared with us I have always had long hair, my hair gives me so much confidence when I can dress it up with pretty things. I wanted to be able to give that same happiness and confidence to someone else, knowing I can help give them a smile makes me so happy. #hairiwthheart Find out more or donate your hair at https://hairwithheart.variety.org.au/

22.01.2022 Before the event was postponed, the 2021 Variety 4WD Adventure was due to call into Quinyambie Station with a special delivery for 5-year-old Clancy and 8-year-old Royce. Our Variety 4WD Crew were looking forward to presenting the boys with brand new iPads to support their learning via School of the Air, where the brothers currently share one computer which struggles to load their educational programs. Before our 4WD crew stepped in, the boys had been saving up for the iPads ...for over 18 months, collecting cans and bottle tops to deposit at the recycling depot when the family make the weekly trip into town. Unfortunately, lockdown meant we couldn't make it to Quinyambie this time around. However, that didn't stop the Quinyambie crew from going all out for the celebration! We'd like to give our thanks to our incredible Variety 4WD Adventure entrants and officials, not only for making these iPads possible, but for their ongoing dedication and support of kids in need. Enjoy your new iPads Clancy and Royce! We know they'll be put to good use.

21.01.2022 This week is #AlopeciaAwarenessWeek! To celebrate, we wanted to share the story of Variety #HairWithHeart wig recipient, Amalia. Amalia is a funny, bubbly 8 year old girl who loves Minecraft, coding and roller skating.... Amalia also has Alopecia. Most of her friends know her as having no hair, but they like how she looks with the wig as well and are very supportive. Like her friends, she’s also navigating the challenges of growing up. Amalia doesn’t wear her wig all the time, but it’s an important option for when she wants to feel her very best and in new situations with new people. 20.01.2022 Happy World Children's Day! #WorldChildrensDay celebrates the 31st anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child as well as the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention recognises every child's right to healthcare, education, clean water, protection from violence and the right to have their say in decisions that affect them. Whilst there is still progress to be made, today we celebrate all the wonderful children in the world and our excitement for the future they will shape!

This year, the theme is 'Always Was, Always Will Be.' to acknowledge First Nations people who have occupied and cared for Australia for more than 65,000 years.
