23.01.2022 At last, after these long performance-free months, we have some music to share with you! In an online concert supported by the wonderful team at Melbourne Digital Recital Hall, our Artistic Director Cheryl Pickering and the talented Michael Ierace bring you vocals to tug at your heartstrings and piano music to ease the soul an exquisite program of Ravel, Macdowell, Schubert and Richard Chew to uplift you and warm your heart. Book your ticket online at https://watch.melbournedigitalconcerthall.com/#/item/58437 And keep an eye out for our P'opera stays home video, coming soon!

23.01.2022 Two years ago, we were working with some local singers on taking opera into the streets - or more precisely in this instance, the shopping arcade. Recently, we got together with a few of our regular singers to explore what might happen when an opera singer is in lockdown. Very soon, we’ll have a little something to share with you...

22.01.2022 "Check what is visible in the background before you start a video conference!" This advice comes from Kate Louise Barriga, another from our fine group of P'opera Stays Home artists. Extra best wishes go to Kate, as she has been in Victoria under lockdown for an extended time. The theme of her video "The Presentation" (which takes place via Zoom) was extra relevant as she's "had to embrace video conferences as the best way to maintain contact with family and friends."... She says of the process, "It was interesting to put together an opera scene while not once being in the same room as the director it consisted of a lot of emails, phone calls, and - in a clear case of life imitating art - a Zoom conference dress rehearsal of our Zoom conference scene" We launch P'opera Stays Home this Friday!

22.01.2022 Only a week until our first online concert! Happening next Thursday 17th September, through the wonderful Melbourne Digital Recital Hall - info and ticket link below.

22.01.2022 Bumping in to the gorgeous Merrijig Inn - and lunch break walk - a hard day at the office... #PortFairySpringFestival#HouseholdNames#womeninmusic

21.01.2022 Only two more sleeps...!

20.01.2022 #songsofcomfort We all have them, we all need them. Let’s share our best in these challenging times. Not fear and despair, but kindness, hope and resilience. Let’s keep channeling the truth and beauty that music reveals to us.... And let’s be kind to each other. See more

18.01.2022 Thank you, wonderful Merrijig Inn team, thank you to our wonderfully engaged audiences, and thank you Port Fairy Spring Festival. We've had a fabulous few days!

10.01.2022 "I was able to sing in my pjs sitting on my bed (a regular pastime of mine)." Gianna Guttilla (pictured right) performed The Essay with Rachel Wong (left) and is the final artist for introduction before we launch P'opera Stays Home tonight. "It has been such a pleasure to have been part of this project and I hope people are able to laugh as well as find little aspects of the scenes that resonate with them during what has been a difficult time for many." ... Check out this page at 7pm tonight (ACDT, Friday 23/10) and we'll finally launch the video!

09.01.2022 We are bringing our hit streetscape opera from 2019, P’opera, back to audiences, but this time with a domestic twist, in P’opera Stays Home. In a response to the restrictions of the pandemic, brief contemporary operatic scenes were recorded by the performers in their homes. P’opera Stays Home sets contemporary lyrics set to well-known operatic tunes to reflect the humorous side of the challenges of working from home, from dealing with boredom and isolation, to home-schooling ...kids and seemingly endless zoom meetings. Experience these ‘arias of isolation’ from talented South Australian operatic singers.

07.01.2022 Images from two of my last tasks as Chair of Chamber Music Adelaide - with David Pisoni MP at the highly successful On The Terrace (an October Sunday of free chamber music in our North Terrace cultural institutions, attended by nearly 1400 people this year) - and our three talented finalists in this year's CMA Young Artists Award, who made choosing a winner very difficult indeed! (Sam Peng, Caleb Lavery-Brook and Charlotte Kelso). After 7 years, I have stepped down from the position of Chair of CMA, handing the organisation to fresh leadership and opening up more time to devote to the joys of Various People Inc productions. Watch this space!

07.01.2022 "It’s hard to sing with a mouthful of TimTam." Alex Roose's P'opera Stays Home contribution is called The Jigsaw, and he has a valuable tip: "try not to leave the hardest part until last, otherwise it will sit undone for months." Our video launches in a week! Stay tuned to learn more about the people who made it.

06.01.2022 Enjoy a leisurely musical stroll along North Terrace on Sunday 27th October - a taster board of musical styles performed by some of SA’s favourite artists, amongst the exhibits of Art Gallery of SA, State Museum, State Library and the Migration Museum - with plenty of opportunities for refreshments along the way... Various People Inc’s Cheryl Pickering & Philip Griffin will be in the Migration Museum - come and say hello!
