23.01.2022 Thank you James Halliday, AM Halliday Wine Companion for sharing our story. #Repost @winecompanion This year’s Best New Winery is @varneywines. Alan Varney and wife Kathrin are responsible for this cellar door and restaurant at the gateway to McLaren Vale. Alan has a wealth of experience in wineries across South Australia, including a long stint as senior winemaker at d’Arenberg. While Alan and Kathrin only officially launched Varney in late 2018, this venture has been in progress for much longer, with the site purchased in 2015, and Alan making wine on the side since 2010. Read more about what James Halliday has to say about his Best New Winery for 2021 at the link in our bio.

13.01.2022 Feeling very lucky today to be playing with five different little parcels of #v20 Adelaide Hills Wine Region Chardonnay from our growers at Longview Vineyard and Rathmines Estate. All wild ferment with differing oak and ferment regimes, judicious lees stirring, a bit of full solids hyperoxidised pressings, plus some citrate negative Malo on a very early picked parcel. What an awesome blending puzzle to put together from the wild and challenging 2020 vintage. Thanks agai...n to our amazing growers. It doesn't happen without you guys. #varneywines #adelaidehills #chardonnay #v20 #wildferment #echunga #macclesfield @ Varney Wines See more

02.01.2022 An exciting debut for our wines with the 2019 ‘Entrada’ Grenache Mourvèdre Touriga featured in James Halliday’s Top 100 in The Australian. Very thankful to be amongst great company too! Our ‘Entrada’ range of wines are made in a modern, approachable, drink now style. Inspired by Winemaker Alan Varney’s time in the small Portuguese town of Entradas, in Alentejo, where he lived a vintage in 2017. The 60/30/10% blend, the Grenache ex 60yo Blewitt Springs bushvines, all co...mponents picked early for vibrancy. Partial whole bunch fermentation, briefly matured in used oak. Holding its hue well, and delivering a very complex yet juicy palate, jumping with spice and fine savoury tannins. 95 points, James Halliday AM. A vibrant red that can be enjoyed in virtually any situation. Available to purchase for $25 per bottle via the link below - https://www.varneywines.com.au//2019-varney-wines-entrada- #varneywines #hallidaytop100
