10.01.2022 This baby Long-nosed Dragon was sunning itself on the steps of one of the apartments at Vatu Sanctuary. One of several dragons on the property, it was keeping an eye on me, as I was just centimetres away from it. This baby dragon is approximately 15 centimetres long. The Long-nosed Dragon has been at various times classified as Lophognathus, Physignathus, Gemmatophora, and Amphibolurus. Now it has been placed in the newly-constructed genus Gowidon - Gowidon longirostris (also known as the Australian Water Dragon).

06.01.2022 At the Alice Springs Desert Park the health and safety of our staff and visitors is always our priority. The Desert Park remains open as a self-guided experien...ce. Effective today, 25 March 2020 all guide presentations, guided tours, events and cinema will cease operating. The Nature Theatre free flight bird show will reduce to one show at 10am with reduced allocated seating to ensure social distancing requirements. It is everyone’s responsibility to enforce 1.5 metre social distancing practices while visiting the Desert Park. Our animals and staff will continue to bring the desert alive through your screens. Stay tuned for updates, videos and many warm and fuzzy moments through our social accounts. We will continue to review the situation as new advice is made available, and any further changes to services will be published on our website and Facebook page.
