25.01.2022 Next weekend is SEVEN Australias Premier Gravel Race. Im so excited to be there for the 3rd year in a row as the event mechanic making sure everyone has a mechanical-free day. Its not too late to register - if you dont, youll regret it. And if you do enter, you might regret it too, but youll sign up again next year. As a side note Im lucky to have great customers, and one of them with a purpose-built-for-SEVEN titanium super-bike was unfortunately not going to make ...the event. But he didnt want his bike to miss out on the event! He offered it to one of my clients if I could find someone worthy, and Chris Tallentire MLA sprung to mind. Chris had a long-travel full suspension bike which was going to make it a very long day in the saddle. Now Chris has a fully-serviced super-bike ready to go for SEVEN! I look forward to seeing everybody next weekend for Australias premier gravel race! See more

25.01.2022 My son Daniel has fallen asleep to the sound of Robbie McEwen commentating on the Tour de France more than once. So it was a pretty special day when he got to meet his Hero!

23.01.2022 Tracey, Steff and Sofia - these ladies need no introduction. But to anyone who doesn't follow WA racing, you're looking at some of WA's fastest female athletes. I've just spent the last four days cleaning, servicing, tuning and giving moral support at WA's newest offroad event DIRT. It's been a tiring and rewarding experience and I didn't even have to ride! What these riders have been through is hard to explain - there's been pain, suffering, torrential rain, mud deeper than your knees and the most common sight throughout the weekend was huge smiles.

23.01.2022 Im often told I have bikes on the brain, which isnt too far from the truth! This isnt a horrible workplace accident - its what happens when you need to prove destruction as part of a warranty claim. The top section of the frame was removed so that a replacement frame could be sent out. Its very common practice in the industry, but very rarely seen by the customer. The reason Im posting this is to congratulate the frame manufacturers who stand by their products and look after their customers to address any issues. Giant and Felt are amazing at this. I wont get into the technical aspects of why this frame was warranteed - lets just say it was a very minor tolerance issue that a lot of frame manufacturers would have denied warranty on.

22.01.2022 **GREAT NEWS** for everybody taking part in the Kalamunda 100 and competing against yourself, your friends or the clock in the 2020 Dams Challenge. Vault Cycle Services has partnered with WestCycle Recreation and Transport as the sole mechanical support for both events. This is fantastic because we can now bring our level of service to all participants. As the event mechanics for all of WAs top road events this is nothing new to us. We look forward to relieving your stress...es on the day and want you to know we have your back. The best thing you can do is make sure your bike is properly serviced before the event so that when we see each other on the day we can chat about how well your bike is performing. Its going to be busy leading up to the event so dont leave booking in your bike to the last minute. If your bike is running badly well make it run great. If your bike is running great, well make it run better. If your bike running fantastic well make it more comfortable. If you have any questions you can call me direct on 0406518812 or go to our website and book your bike in online. See you soon! http://www.vaultcycleservices.com.au/bookings-bicycle-serv/ See more

22.01.2022 We recommend you take your time to peruse this list, then let us know which of the top 30 relate to you. Number 4? Number 5? Does you boss love you more for cycling? What do you think is missing from the list?

All you need to do is share the reason you deserve one of these tickets and I'll pick a winner tomorrow. Yes, it's short notice - the race is this weekend! For everybody travelling to the event I'll be down there on Friday afternoon and around all weekend. If you have any questions big or small don't hesitate to come find me and we can have a chat about making your bike faster, smoother and more reliable! 21.01.2022 I managed to take a photo yesterday showing my ideal view of the world - the only thing thats missing is my amazing wife and wonderful children! Im so lucky to be able to do something I love, because I never really feel like Im going to work. On a less personal note, this photo was taken at the Karri Valley Triathlon this weekend. Thanks to Stadium Triathlon Club for putting on such a great event, and to all the competitors, volunteers and spectators who helped bring it all together. http://www.karrivalleytri.com

20.01.2022 Has your bike ever displayed these symptoms? Grinding, ticking or clicking noises, notched or stepped rotation, jerk, or loose feel. It could be a faulty bearing. Sometimes noise or rough feel is caused by sand and other debris that managed its way into the bearing and is stuck in the grease, so, cleaning and applying fresh grease is enough to solve the problem, provided the symptom wasn't left too long unattended. If it doesnt sound right or feel right, get it checked out.... We can do it for you as part of Vault's Standard Servicing. PM us for a chat about your concerns. No one wants a sad bike :(

20.01.2022 Congratulations to everybody at Busselton over the weekend. Here's a photo of Nathan Saunders' bike that helped him win the Busselton Half Ironman. He was first out of 805 competitors and completed the 90km cycle leg in 2h10. That's pretty fast by anybody's standards! Nathan and I have found a common interest over the last few months involving drivechain optimisation, trying to maximise aerodynamics and marginal gains. It appears to have worked! If you've ever wondered what a truly fast bike looks like, this is it.

20.01.2022 I was really stoked that at the end of a busy day fixing bikes at the Tour of Margaret River I got to sit down and have a break with Robbie McEwen. Luckily, after winning 12 stages of the Tour de France he's quite qualified to change his own tyre and doesn't need mechanical help! https://www.facebook.com/tourofmr/

20.01.2022 "To helmet or not to helmet".....one report has just been published, analysing the impact of compulsory helmet wearing in Australia. Where do you sit in this? Happy Monday!

20.01.2022 Ive always thought rider comfort is the most important thing to take into consideration when building your bike. If youre not comfortable, youre not going to enjoy your ride. When it comes to my own bike, velvet handlebar tape takes it to the next level! Yes, I know how it looks, but if you knew how it felt you wouldnt care either! Its been a while since Ive been on my bike, so Ive decided to make more time this year for my own fitness. The smile it puts on my face can only translate to a better service for your bike. My bike is incredibly comfortable and rather special, but thats a whole separate story. If youd like to know how I restored my Bianchi you can read about it in Cycling Tips Bikes of the Bunch. https://cyclingtips.com//bikes-of-the-bunch-bianchi-speci/

19.01.2022 There's not much Stefanie Van Amerongen can't do on a bike.

19.01.2022 Turn your volume up to hear my melodious voice (and some beautiful birdsong!) Don't hesitate to contact me for your dream bike build. You too can ride something that's uniquely yours!

19.01.2022 Only 2 weeks to go till the fantastic RAC Karri Valley Triathlon starts! Its great to be heading down as the event mechanic for the 3rd year in a row. Its not too late to get your bike serviced and your drivechain optimised. My slow cooker has been running flat out preparing Molten Speedwax racechains for the big event. There are plenty of things we can do to make sure your bike will run faster and smoother on the day. Book in online or give me a call so we can make sure youve got a spot secured as we are filling up fast. RAC Karri Valley Triathlon

17.01.2022 Well it's been a while. Over the last 8 weeks we've had 4 major events in WA with large groups of people totalling close to 2,500 competitors (let's not forget how lucky we are to be in WA!!). We've had the Tour of WA, an inaugural event for RIDE WA, a 6-day tour spending time around the amazing south west. Backed up shortly after by SEVEN Australia's Premier Gravel Race. Followed shortly after by the Tour of Margaret River also organised by RideWA, which also happens to b...e Australia's largest professional team race. Today, finishing off our race season before Christmas with one of Australia's largest charity rides, MSWA Ocean Ride. I engaged with lots of people stuck on the side of the road today and it was nice to see their smiles they got bigger when they asked how much they owed and I said nothing because your doing this ride today for a good cause. I have been lucky enough to be the event mechanic for all four events and it's been a pretty hectic couple of months in between loading, unloading, loading, unloading, loading, unloading the van. There's been keeping my regular customer's bikes in tip top condition, some amazing custom builds and hopefully enough time with the boys and family. And let's not forget the people in the picture. They may look like they're just eating ice cream but the reality is that through all these events these special people make it possible for us to ride these events. They stand on the side of road pointing left or right but they never stop smiling. Without them these events don't happen. Three cheers for the volunteers! See more

16.01.2022 I hope everyone is as excited as I am about this weekend! I've supported SEVEN Australia's Premier Gravel Race since its inauguration - it started great and every year it gets better and better! This year we have over 1,000 competitors pushing their bodies and their bikes through all sorts of barriers and challenges. This is one event I look forward to because I get to spend lots of time with my customers and friends. FYI there are a few spots in the workshop available before I head down. Vault Cycle Services will be at the event village on Saturday from 2-5pm and contactable via mobile the rest of the time. I hope you've all been training and I look forward to seeing you down there. Check out the photo below for some inspiration for your next gravel weapon....

15.01.2022 Whether its indoors, on an indoor trainer or on a deserted road, weve known it for years but its never been more important than now. Cycling keeps us sane, clears the head and resets the soul! If youre wondering if its wise to get your bike serviced during a pandemic, I want to reassure you that Vault Cycle Services takes its public health responsibilities seriously. Your health and safety is as important to me as mine is. Our pick-up and drop-off service is now more... vital than ever, as is our hands-free electronic payment system. We wash bikes thoroughly before servicing them, use latex surgical gloves during the service, and industrial hand cleaner afterwards (and we have good supplies of these). Speaking of supplies, we continue to carry a large range of components so you wont be left stranded if you need a replacement. So take advantage of the wonderful weather and please make sure you stay on your bike it may be the one thing that keeps you sane! See more

15.01.2022 Congratulations to everybody reading this who's competing in the 2021 Dams Challenge tomorrow courtesy of WestCycle Recreation and Transport. You're embarking on an awesome physical challenge! We want you to know that the team at Vault Cycle Services has your back - we're not here to service a particular team or person, we are here for you. Don't be afraid to put your hand up if you see us and need mechanical help. This is not just any van, it's a mobile workshop carrying all the parts needed to fix any issues. We'll be at the start line, at the Bedfordale lunch stop and along the route as needed. And remember, tomorrow's going to be an amazing and busy day. Lots of people and lots of bikes from all different walks of life but there's one thing we all have in common which is a love of cycling!

15.01.2022 Its been a long time between posts. The Vault has been very busy getting ready for upcoming events! I often take photos of amazing bikes with incredible athletes next to them and never find time to post. But today you get to see inspiring young children who will potentially be the champions of tomorrow. I was lucky enough today to spend the morning with enthusiastic kids from Tuart Hill Primary School, giving them and their parents an introduction to bicycle safety and maintenance. I look forward to working on their bikes in future before they do the first stage of the Tour de France!

14.01.2022 Meet Sabine - arguably Australias best endurance athlete. She left on Wednesday with her support team to do the worlds premier ultra endurance event, Race Across America. Just before she left she was in our workshop to have all 3 bikes race prepped, tuned and checked to make sure mechanical issues wont be a problem during her 5,000km in 12 days. Sabine hopes to finish the event in under 12 days with a small buffer. Ive been fixing athletes bikes for years but at no point have I ever been so flabbergasted and impressed with what she is about to do. If you want to follow her progress go to TeamBean RAAM. Good luck to you Sabine and everybody else in Team Bean!

14.01.2022 Good luck to all my clients and friends competing in the Busselton Ironman tomorrow. Ive had a very busy and tiring runup to Busso, so my relaxation has started - the rest of you have to wait 24hrs! Id like to thank everyone from Stadium Tri Club, the Exercise Institute and all of the other smaller clubs and individuals who have relied on me to ensure their bikes are in tip top shape for tomorrows race. Im looking forward to all the stories of what a wonderful cycle leg everyone had!

14.01.2022 I'm lucky enough to work on a lot of very light bikes. But when they come in at under 6 kilo including pedals it's worth sharing!!! For anybody who's tried and failed to contact me over the last couple of weeks, I apologise I had a well needed holiday with no phone reception. But don't despair if your bike needs of midwinter birthday I'm back on the tools.

13.01.2022 I'm so lucky to be able to support WA's best cycling events. I hope you've all been training - it's going to be a long and rewarding day in the saddle for everybody! Making sure your body is working is up to you, but give me call if you have any bike related issues or even just some questions. I'm here to help.

13.01.2022 Ive been very busy lately making sure everyone is ready for their events, so Ive decided that tomorrow Im going for a ride. The only problem I have is, do I ride the blue one that makes me smile, the blue one that makes me smile or the blue one that makes me smile? First world problems, I guess - Ill decide in the morning! I hope everyone reading this has the chance to go for a ride tomorrow, whether youre training/tapering for Busso or getting really excited about Seven. Enjoy your ride and know that Im back on the tools on Monday. SEVEN - Community

12.01.2022 What a wonderful way to start the day, catching up with some good friends in Kings Park and doing some on-the-spot repairs before everybody heads to their hard day at the office. And while I'm here, congratulations to Sabine Bird for successfully defending her24 hr title at http://www.revolve24.com - first solo female, sixth solo finisher overall. Good to know the bike survived the gobsmacking 658.35km! Next time your legs are feeling cooked after 100km, times that feeling by 6.5 and you'll have an understanding of what this athlete can do. And by the way, this race was just a warm up race for http://www.raceacrossamerica.org .

12.01.2022 Another awesome weekend away with likeminded people - The Beverley Heroic. its the one event that brings us all together, not under the banner of race results, the lightest bikes or the most expensive components. This is WAs only event that reminds us that we are not the first generation to be riding and racing bikes. The first race was in 1897 from Beverley to Perth on a gravel track frequented by cattle and horses. To a lot of people today we think we are the first ...to discover gravel bikes. Electronic, titanium, expensive. The Beverley reminds us of just how tough previous generations were. I would like to thank Toby Hodgson and the South Perth Rouleurs for putting on such an amazing event. Keeping races like this going in this day and age is not a cheap or easy exercise. I tip my top hat to Toby and previous organisers and look forward to seeing everything from rod pull 1800s to late model bicycles next year celebrating cycling. See more

12.01.2022 Here are some beautiful ti bikes to get your attention because they’re better looking than I am! Vault Cycle Services will be closed from Tuesday 17 December to Wednesday 8 January so I can spend some time with my family and get out on my bike instead of fixing yoursI’ve had another great year fixing and enhancing bikes to help my clients achieve their PB’s and have fun on smooth, silent rides. I hope everyone finds the time to get out on their bike during the festive break and I look forward to catching up with you next year. Thanks again to the people who have supported me year in year out - you know who you are!

12.01.2022 Mike is an enthusiastic rider. If he can, he is out every weekend and any time he can fit in a quick ride during the week. However, his bike had been giving him a few warning signs it wasnt quite happy: For some time now I have been wondering if the creaking noise coming from somewhere around my headset could be caused by an ovalized headtube. I can't get rid of the noise by tightening my headset. At one time the headset wouldn't stay tight and after a few rides down the hi...ll I'd notice that it had gotten loose. Naturally this meant that by accident I rode big drops and hard downhill with a loose headset. I have understood that this might make the headtube oval. If it's ovalized, do I just have to say goodbye to the frame because it'll eventually break? The answer? Yes, the frame can certainly start to crack if not inspected and serviced. Bearings will be affected by more wear and tear and will need a clean, inspection and possible replacement. In the end, riding when you have an inkling something needs fixing can end up costing you more in $ and lost bike time than you ever hoped! A standard Vault service for $199 will give your bike a thorough check on this issue and others. PM us for a check up.

11.01.2022 Turn your volume up to hear my melodious voice (and some beautiful birdsong!) Dont hesitate to contact me for your dream bike build. You too can ride something thats uniquely yours!

09.01.2022 After delivering a bike to another satisfied client, in the middle of West Perth at lunchtime it finally happened, my worst nightmare. I came across a bike I couldn't fix!!! I've never felt so helpless with a bike in front of me before. On a more serious note, this bike was dragged out on fire from an office building and I happened to be there. It had had a cheap electric motor conversion fitted that took fire at the office while being charged. Luckily, someone noticed t...he fire and the bike was dragged outside. Electric bikes are the way of the future for people who may otherwise be in a car. I love racing bikes and I'm not a purist. Anything that gets people out of the car is great. But be warned, cheap online petrol powered or electric power conversions can be dangerous in so many ways and here's a great example of why you should buy an electric bike from a reputable dealer and from a reputable brand. I dread to think what would have happened today if nobody had noticed the bike in the foyer of the building and brought it outside. See more

09.01.2022 Congratulations for an amazing effort today Matthew Connan - Cyclist! Well done on your awesome results at the Nationals with a bronze in a highly contested Junior Mens National Time Trial Championships. It's been a pleasure working with you and your family over the years, getting your bike ready and making sure you have a mechanical-free ride. Knowing you have one of the fastest bikes out there leaves you to concentrate on a job you're clearly very good at!

08.01.2022 Let people know how you feel Any day of the week! )

08.01.2022 Youre right!! Its late and they should be in bed. But its Saturday night and the 1st mountain stage. Hows your Tour de France Saturday night viewing going?

07.01.2022 With the weather heating up, remember a change in temperature can affect the pressure in your tyres. Here is a rough guide of where to start. It will depend on your bike, your tyres, your body weight. Narrow tyres need more air pressure than wide ones: Road tyres typically require 80 to 130 psi (pounds per square inch); mountain bike tyres, 25 to 35 psi; and hybrid tyres, 40 to 70 psi.... To find your ideal pressure, start in the middle of these ranges, then factor in your body weight. The more you weigh, the higher your tyre pressure needs to be. Check out the graph to guide you. Never go above or below the manufacturer's recommended tire pressures, which are listed on the sidewall. Still unsure? PM us for advice if you like.

06.01.2022 Meet Maria Teresa. I had the pleasure of meeting her 5 minutes before the start of Stage 3 of Dirt, WA's newest and best offroad stage race. Maria came to the workstation for some advice, and I noted her tyres were potentially not the best choice for the conditions. She confessed she's no mountain biker and is much more of a road cyclist, so I suggested some new tyres with more traction would make her day a lot more enjoyable/safer. I quickly changed the tyres with a couple of minutes to spare, and she was off. 3hrs and 39 minutes later Maria returned, much to my surprise crossing the line in first place!

04.01.2022 Well that's a wrap. Another amazing Tour of Margaret River completed. I think it's safe to say that the organizers (Brendan and Rebecca) and volunteers have done an amazing job yet again. It was fantastic to spend 3 days with my valued customers and friends who I usually only get to have a brief conversation with. And on a side note, I got to see Marianne Vos again who was gracious enough to let me have a photo with her. I think her accolades in cycling make Eddie Mercx look like a B Grade rider! I'm also very privileged that the lovely lady who came to join in the photo (on the left) is pro cyclist Moniek Tenniglo from team Mitchelton Scott! https://www.facebook.com/tourofmr/

When it comes to my own bike, velvet handlebar tape takes it to the next level! Yes, I know how it looks, but if you knew how it felt you wouldn’t care either! It’s been a while since I’ve been on my bike, so I’ve decided to make more time this year for my own fitness. The smile it puts on my face can only translate to a better service for your bike. My bike is incredibly comfortable and rather special, but that’s a whole separate story. If you’d like to know how I restored my Bianchi you can read about it in Cycling Tips Bikes of the Bunch. https://cyclingtips.com//bikes-of-the-bunch-bianchi-speci/

04.01.2022 You're right!! It's late and they should be in bed. But it's Saturday night and the 1st mountain stage. How's your Tour de France Saturday night viewing going?

03.01.2022 I'm really looking forward to this!

03.01.2022 Im lucky enough to work on a lot of very light bikes. But when they come in at under 6 kilo including pedals its worth sharing!!! For anybody whos tried and failed to contact me over the last couple of weeks, I apologise I had a well needed holiday with no phone reception. But dont despair if your bike needs of midwinter birthday Im back on the tools.

02.01.2022 Another busy 3 days at an amazing event organised by RideWA, @survivingseven . Here's a little sample of my weekend where I got to catch up with many of my valued customers and was proud to see in the results that 4 of the top 7 open female winners are long term clients of mine.

02.01.2022 It's been a long time between posts.

02.01.2022 Well that was another amazing weekend down at the RAC Karri Valley Triathlon organised by Stadium Triathlon Club. This was Vault Cycle Services 5th year as the major cycle leg sponsor. It's always wonderful to come down to the RAC Karri Valley Resort - it's the most scenic place that you could hold a triathlon (unless of course you've been to Kona Hawaii you might get to argue). We have one photo of a very happy mechanic in his happy place surrounded by close to 450 beautifu...l racing bikes. There was lots of talk of drive chain optimisation and everything waxed. The other photo is me with Nick Thompson the winner of the men's long course. Nick did something pretty special during the race that was make Matt Burton work hard to come in second. Well done to everybody that competed and I look forward to seeing you all again next year. And back to town we go to get bikes ready for the Ride for Youth. See more

01.01.2022 The leadup to the Busselton Ironman is coming to a close. This has been a very familiar sight for the last two weeks whenever I turn around from my workbench - beautiful bikes waiting very patiently for their turn to be race checked, serviced and tuned. Thanks again to everybody who's trusted me with their pride and joy. I wish everyone good luck for the race and fingers crossed for the weather!

01.01.2022 Well thats a wrap. Another amazing Tour of Margaret River completed. I think its safe to say that the organizers (Brendan and Rebecca) and volunteers have done an amazing job yet again. Im also very privileged that the lovely lady who came to join in the photo (on the left) is pro cyclist Moniek Tenniglo from team Mitchelton Scott! https://www.facebook.com/tourofmr/
