Over the last 6 weeks, students have been learning the photographic emulsion process involved in screen printing at the MADA printmaking studios. 01.01.2022 The Year 9 Japanese students worked with Ms Gannon to make a series of Origami Butterflies and create this commemorative art work in honour of Ms Judith Gardiner. Japanese names for butterfly are batafurai, choho, cho and kocho. In Japanese culture butterflies are closely linked with recently departed spirits and consequently are represented in a number of traditional family crests. Japanese people perceive the butterflies to be the soul of the living and the dead. The dead take the form of a butterfly when on their journey to the other world and into eternal life. Judith was a long time member of the VCASS staff - well loved and fondly remembered.
