23.01.2022 Will I get to go to heaven? is a question that doesnt really come up in the minds of many young people nowadays. Even if it did, its probably followed by so...mething like Yeah, as long as Im decent and dont do anything too bad I probably will. And so the thought ends there. The person who asked Jesus about salvation in todays gospel perhaps thought something similar, but Jesus answer didnt seem to imply this. Instead He said make every effort to proceed through the narrow door... many will try and not succeed (Luke 13:24) He didnt say that it was enough just to be nice, though it is the seemingly common view nowadays. Rather, he implores us to be perfect, as the heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48), and to take up our crosses daily and follow him (Luke 9:23). For some of us, the crosses may be very heavy indeed, but our ever loving God promises to walk with us always in our struggle for holiness (Matthew 11:28-30). See more

22.01.2022 Nobody's Perfect ========================== Reflection by an attendee at VCYAM Sundays 06/10/2019

22.01.2022 Four weeks to go!!!

21.01.2022 VCYAM Reflections - How do I build the Kingdom? 3/11/2019 by an attendee

21.01.2022 God calls us all to various vocations. Both men and women must learn to listen to God and to ask him for the desire to follow his plan for their lives. In vocational discernment, we prayerfully consider our own gifts and what we sense God is asking of us with the help of those who have made similar choices to determine the state of life to which God is calling us. Come to VCYAM this Sunday to help discover what vocations God has planned for you!

20.01.2022 Mother Mary ========================== Reflection by an attendee at VCYAM Sundays 20/10/2019

18.01.2022 Come and join us on Sunday the 4th of August for a 5pm Mass followed by dinner and discussion on this very topic: Why wait? Gods plan for human sexuality. You might find out that the Church LOVES sex much more than our society does. Lets think about sex!

18.01.2022 Nun the wiser ========================== Reflection by an attendee at VCYAM Sundays 18/08/2019 I am at a stage in my life where I am starting to question what I... am meant to be doing. I think you call it the quarter life crisis, except I'm not 25 anymore. What do I aim for? Is it success or happiness? Security or comfort? Goals like these seem practical because, after all, who wants a hard life? But being Catholic means we aim further to go even higher. This weeks session on vocations reminded me that being God's children meant that we all have the ultimate aim of becoming saints (no mean feat); to overcome our own self-centred wants to stretch for God's will. For a select few of us, this means the call to Holy Orders, it's that special group of glowing spiritual shepherds that guide us back onto the path of holiness. When priests perform sacraments, they do so as Christ personified, in persona Christi, allowing us to reconnect with the Divine. Our privileged glimpse of heaven on earth. The religious sisters, priests and brothers opened up about how the discernment process occurs over many years, and can be thwart with agonising spiritual crises. Their testimonies fleshed out the extent of their sacrifice and devotion. Our religious clergy are like us: capable of uncertainty and anguish. But unlike us, they open their hearts fully to Gods call, take on awe-inspiring vows and become Jesus's modern-day disciples. In many ways their lives are harder than ours. It takes a brave and selfless soul to say yes to the religious call. For the rest of us, whether it be the vocation of marriage or single life, our goal is no less great. We are called to greatness, so said Pope Emirus Benedict XVI. We are called to holiness. This means aiming for sainthood no matter where our vocation sits.

17.01.2022 As the retreat draws near, I find myself contemplating on my treasure. It was security that I always searched for: stability and predictability. Anything unexpected or less than ideal would drive me into an almost-nervous attack. As I grew in my faith, grace flowed in and opened my eyes to the futility of this desire for personal control. I cannot control every detail in my life. Even if I could, What does it benefit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?... What does it benefit me if I have the worldly security I crave for but am utterly distrusting the Unchanging One I KNOW I should be able to trust? Slowly, but surely now, my thoughts are moving towards my eternal home, heaven. Im slowly comprehending that as many material things and security as I have, my brothers and sisters who are poor and/or being persecuted for their faith on the other side of the world are the truly rich ones; for their treasure is unfailing, unstealable. No one will ever be able to take away the Love and Joy of God from them or us. Spots are STRICTLY LIMITED to 35 people so get in quick! 16.01.2022 Its just too hard to wake up early on a freezing Sunday morning to go to Mass. Come to 5pm Mass at St Josephs Collingwood and join us for a discussion on Love, Marriage and what it means to say I do. We have a lot of unpack this Sunday: Finding the one, am I with the one, what is Love? You know, just a few important things in the life of a generation Z. And when you have your happily ever after, you can thank us for it.

14.01.2022 Single? Or dating someone and hoping one day you will get to marry them and share a beautiful family life with them? Or maybe you are already living that life. Sex is an important part, both of marriage and of the growth of the family that comes from it. Come join us at VCYAM on Sunday the 4th of August and let us explore the beautiful place the Church has assigned for human sexuality in the life of the faithful. Lets talk about sex, baby! 13.01.2022 One great way to determine what your treasure is, is to reflect on what you spend most of your free time doing. Sometimes we think our treasure is one thing, just to discover that the way we spend our time reveals otherwise. A man who truly treasures his athletic performance would spend most of his free time (and would enjoy) training and improving his fitness. If he spends most of his free time watching the telly or on virtual quests in an online game, is his treasure actual...ly what he thought it was? What do you spend most of your free time on? That is your treasure. The answer might surprise you! Are you storing up a lasting treasure or one that disappears like dust once the initial enjoyment fades? Come to our retreat and let us all reflect on whether our treasures are worth the sacrifices we inevitably make for them. Spots are STRICTLY LIMITED to 35 people so get in quick! 12.01.2022 Who does not long to discover a hidden treasure? The human heart was made for the happiness and security treasure promises; for the joy it brings. But one fundamental problem presents itself: to what kind of treasure should we entrust our heart, our inmost being, our very self? It should surely be something that makes us happy right? Or should it just make us happy? What if these things that make us happy are the things that will betray and leave us at the most crucial moment of our life: the moment of our departure from this life? Come to our retreat and join us on this reflection; possibly the most important one in our lives! Event: http://bit.ly/vcyam2019retreat Register: http://www.trybooking.com/BDPNU

11.01.2022 VCYAM Sunday Reflections - 21/07/2019

10.01.2022 Waiting for Christmas can be so hard and not just for children! For adults Christmas comes around quicker every year! For the last number of weeks, we have been surrounded by lights, decorations, carols, food, gifts and presents. These are all very important parts of our festivities and celebrations. However, we should not forget that Christmas is a commemoration of God's coming into the world. He came for all of us - believers and non-believers alike. His birth should bring ...us hope and triumph which will dispel the sadness from our lives. But after years of celebrating Christmas after Christmas many of us are yet to see that triumph in our lives and our hopes may be giving way to despair. Has the Messiah really come? If He has where is He? Amidst our celebrations this Christmas, let us pause a while to look around us to recognize that Jesus who was born into the world two thousand years ago. He is among us in every person and in every trial and tribulation we encounter in our lives. Let us take a moment to look around to recognise Him in those who do not have joy and peace in their lives. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

09.01.2022 4 DAYS TO GO!! Just a reminder that our Christmas party is just around the corner, so it's time to put your party hats on!! Please post on this page/post what f...ood you are planning to bring and share so that we do not overlap. AND DON'T FORGET Kris Kringle is also happening with gifts of $20! 08.01.2022 Counting down the days now! The team has prepared an action and soul provoking weekend ahead and we cant wait to meet all you beautiful people! This weekend we will be joined by Thomas , Francis , Daniel and Cecilia who will be leading us into praise and worship and adoration

07.01.2022 In our Catholic Tradition, we are blessed to have many different ways to approach God in prayer. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us there are verbal prayer (both spontaneous and drawn from the treasury of the saints), meditation and contemplation (CCC 2700-2719). Through prayers of blessing and adoration, petition, intercession, thanksgiving, and praise, we experience God both personal prayer and as a people of God, especially in the liturgy (CCC 2626-2643).

05.01.2022 Talking about sex ================== Reflection by an attendee at VCYAM Sundays 04/08/2019 Throughout my life growing up as a Catholic, the topic about sex has ...always been a taboo. Last night was an important step for me, when I chose to attend this session to learn more about the Catholics perspective on sex. As I mentioned before, growing up I was never educated properly on the importance of respecting sex. As a young Vietnamese Catholic in Australia, I grew up in a modern culture where sex was just meaningless, social and recreational; controlled by a lot of peer-pressure. The choice of staying a virgin or holding on to chastity was always looked down on. There was a lot of discussion around the bad outcomes and effects that pre-marital sex has on a person, as well as so many other important things that I can point out. What strikes me the most from last nights session was the realisation that sex is a gift from God. It is an important gift and we need to respect sex by living chastely. God gave us this gift to create new life with Him. Sex is a beautiful thing, between a chaste man and chaste woman. It is a higher form of love with God in the centre of it. I am glad to have attended this session where we explored this particular topic, and am grateful to have learned and understood the importance of sex and chastity. I pray to God that in the near future the world may understand how important this gift is, that enables us to create a new life with God.

01.01.2022 The Catholic Church is an outdated institution that is just looking to keep us in the past and repress our desires and happiness. is a common thought among the youth of our age. Especially when it comes to sex. Is the Catholic Church like a bad Mother, starving Her children of their natural needs and desires? Or is She like a good Mother, asking her children to hold up on eating cake before the dinner feast so their appetite is not ruined? Come to VCYAM at St Josephs Collingwood tomorrow and join us for the Holy Mass, dinner, and a chat on the Churchs stance on human sexuality. Warning: what you find out might surprise you! Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/688890878251725/

01.01.2022 Mary was given a special gift by God, since God knew from eternity that she would accept His calling to be the Mother of Christ. This gift was the privilege given at the first moment of Marys existence: the privilege of her Immaculate Conception. The fact that she was conceived by her mother, St. Anne, without Original Sin meant that her whole life was uniquely holy among all Gods creatures. Her life was still filled w...ith struggles and pain, but at the end of her life on this earth, Mary became a sign of hope for us. Tomorrow we commemorate the Assumption of Mary's body and soul into heaven. Catholics remember this event in the Fourth Glorious Mystery of the Rosary and so every August 15th is a Holy Day of Obligation. Yes, that means mass is compulsory for all Catholics tomorrow! Please check your local churches for mass times and feel free to share below!

01.01.2022 The Bees to the Attitude ========================== Reflection by an attendee at VCYAM Sundays 15/09/2019 People pursue many things in life - material possessio...ns and wealth, success in education and work, health and well-being, prestige and honour and on it goes - all of which are hoped to ultimately bring happiness. At the crux of it, that's what people want, happiness, however well disguised it might be. And that's what the word "Beatitude" actually means - ultimate happiness - as we learnt in VCYAM tonight. The Beatitudes are among Jesus' most memorable teachings that we hear in church, often at funerals it seems too. While I don't think I can remember all eight of them by heart, I always feel I know what they mean when heard again. And then I delve deeper in and realise they are so much more. That's what we did tonight at VCYAM, went along a well trodden path only to find new vistas. Many who hear Jesus speak of the 8 Beatitudes on the Sermon on the Mount are left confused. Blessed are the poor in spirit... Blessed are those who mourn... Blessed can also be translated as happy, so....happy are those who mourn... This does sound very contradictory. The key lies in an understanding of who we are and what we are made for. That is, we are made by God for God, meaning that our ultimate happiness can only be in God, living out His plans in this life, and being with Him in heaven for eternity. The Beatitudes then gives us a roadmap on how to live, and points us to the real experiences that will lead to ultimate happiness. Being poor is a recognition that only God can fill us. Mourning for the real losses that matter, our vices, our sins, allows us to turn to God for comfort. While the Beatitudes comfort those suffering now with a promise of ultimate happiness in heaven, they also have something to say about the kingdom of God here on earth too. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth is a promise that this way of living shall be rewarded in the relationships of this life. Have a blessed week ahead everyone!
