21.01.2022 There is currently a large population of mountain ducks at the Western Treatment Plant near Werribee. These shots are just from 2 of the outer lagoons. But its... not the only place you will find Mountain ducks or other ducks in the state. There are plenty out there, if you get out and look. See more

19.01.2022 Acknowledgment of Recommendations.

17.01.2022 UPDATE: VDHA RECOMMENDATIONS The VDHA was invited to make a submission into the 2021 duck hunting season by the Game Management Authority. Our full submission will be available on the GMA website within the next 24 hours. The VDHA made the following recommendations:... 1) A full unmodified season (12 weeks and 10 birds per day): Due to the reduced 2020 duck season and the abundance of water available to native game and non-game birds, ducks have had the opportunity to breed multiple times in the year. Despite there being a reported decline in native duck numbers in the GMA Considerations Report as well as the EAWS8, both reports fail to take into account that bird population density has reduced because of the increase in habitat (water available across the country) or the number of game birds in local parks and private/public dams. Our data suggests by excluding dams and parks in the GMA considerations report and EAWS that there could be a further 315,000 to 1,898,000 birds missing in the population reports. Further information by the GMA Considerations Report suggest that January - March 2021 will be wetter than average, thus creating the ideal conditions for optimal breeding, population growth and a sustainable full season. There's no reason we should receive anything less than a full season and full bag limit in 2021. 2) A return to the traditional start time: The VDHA does not believe that the trialled late start time has been successful and recomends a return to traditional start times. 3) Limiting Game Licenses to hunters (legitimate reasons within the Act): Anti hunting protestors illegitimately obtain game licenses to gain access to state game reserves and wetlands. The VDHA is asking the GMA to restrict game licenses to hunters. 4) Increasing the distance between a protestor and hunter from 10 meters to 100+ meters. This is commonsense. 5) Enforsing Section 58E: Under Section 58E of the Wildlife Act, a person is not allowed to hinder or obstruct a hunter. The VDHA is calling on the GMA to better enforce S58E. This will deter anti-hunting protestors from harassing hunters. WHAT NOW? The VDHA has worked hard on behalf of our members and duck hunters in general to achieve the best possible outcome for 2021. Soon our submission and that of the other stakeholders will be made available online. We would also like to thank the SSAA and FGA for recommending a full bag limit and full season. 14.01.2022 Vegan Protestor Terrorises Small Business Owner and Shoppers: https://vicduckhunters.com/f/vegan-protestor-terrorises-sma A Local Business owner has been terrorised by a vegan protestor in a Perth Mall who was dressed in white clothing, covered in "artificial" blood and carrying the head of a butchered pig yelling taunts and foul language. The Culprit:... The Protestor's name is Tash Peterson who makes a living as an "influencer". Peterson stood out the front of the Butcher and shouted taunts and abuse at the butcher and the general public. "If you use animal products you are an animal abuser," The women from behind the counter (presumably the business owner) confronted the disruptive protestor but Peterson kept on screaming and shouting until the owner eventually escorted the protestor to exit until a security person came along. Most shoppers ignored the protestor or laughed at her and her silly antics however some, particularly small children found the incident very confronting. No person should have to put up with this behavior and as a consequence this business has lost a days trade which is quite significant, especially as we are in the recovery after Covid-19. Culture Change: What was interesting is that if this where to have happened 20 years ago, someone from the general public what have intervened and moved the protestor a long however, today's society people seem to just watch from a distance, record with their phones and laugh at the expense of others. No Follow Up: As a result of Peterson's stunt, the business owner has lost a days Trade, shoppers have had their shopping experience ruined, children have been left in tears and Peterson is allowed to walk away as if nothing has happened. She does not have to face any financial or legal repercussions for her actions, Personally I believe that the right to protest is very important however it should never be in away that promotes the use of intimidation or violence and that is precisely what Peterson and other animal right protestors do. Animal Rights/An-Hunting Protestors This scenario might not be a common site in our shopping centers but it is on our swamps and wetlands at every duck season each year and unlike the shop owner we cannot pick the protestors up and carry them out. Enough needs to be done about animal rights protestors. By Jay Scicluna - VDHA Secretary
