You may be aware that the Heritage Golf & Country Club in Chirnside Park Victoria had planned to slaughter the gorgeous kangas who have long resided there. Strong community outcry led to a change in management and the delay of the brutal killing. Then news from within was that the kangas were going to be safe moving forward. We excitedly prepared a post to celebrate this win and thank the many groups and individuals who worked together to make this possible, and the club for listening to the community and making the right decision. Sadly, that post has now been edited to this. Public and formal confirmation from the new manager Ms Christine Zhang that the slaughter had been permanently cancelled has not been forthcoming. We must ensure she, and the club owners, know we will not alow this to happen and they must cancel any future plans for a kill immediately and confirm this in a statement to the residents and the public. It wasn’t enough to really be a wakeup call for people and our media has done a terrible job, incredibly poor job. They should have been really honing down on why we are getting these pandemics and they haven’t. And our public health agencies should have been doing that as well and they haven’t. "So, a lot of balls have been dropped he...re. We are going to get more pandemics and it is going to take a big one, and maybe one that effects children, unfortunately, before people really do wakeup. But that’s a real-world example of why we are going to have to change, because we are going to see (greater) risk of pandemics, we’re seeing environmental destruction, climate change, which will actually increase our risk for mosquito born diseases like Zika Virus and so on. other types of diseases.
