16.01.2022 After such a great start to the year, I spent this afternoon contacting those who had appointments in the coming week to push them all back. We will wait and se...e if the Saturday appointments need to be changed. Who would have thought, after 10 months of this state doing so well. 16.01.2022 Another calico, another custom couture bride! The calico stage is a very important part of having a wedding dress made. Every dress I make has a calico fitting... and it is included in the cost of your dress. It’s where we make changes that can’t be made once the actual fabric is cut. For example, you can see that this brides dress has an illusion back. If it’s too low, I will adjust it for the fabric. So with a calico dress you get to see a basic version of the dress silhouette. 09.01.2022 Sometimes a bride and a dress are just meant to be I had gorgeous bride message me last week on Friday night to ask if she could make an appointment to try on... a particular dress. It was urgent as the wedding date was only five days away! Unfortunately I was fully booked with appointments that day, so all I could offer was if I finished early with another appointment, she could come in between meaning it would be short notice. Luckily, she was fine with that! I did finish early with an appointment so Haervie quickly rushed over. She tried the dress on and fell in love. She didn’t even need any time to think about it. It was almost a perfect fit - so much so that she could get away without any alterations and you couldn’t even tell. She also grabbed one of my new stock veils The weather was perfect on Wednesday. You couldn’t ask for any better Haervie sent through a couple of photos that I can share. 08.01.2022 Congratulations to all those who have recently become engaged! I would love to meet with you if you are thinking of starting your wedding gown journey. I belo...ng to many wedding groups on Facebook where I am always reading that brides to be aren’t considering having their wedding dress custom made because it is most likely out of their budget and too expensive. In some cases it may be, but at DWB my custom couture made wedding gowns start from $1150 with an average price of $1850. A couture dress is created 100% from scratch - each custom design is individually patterned and the finest materials are specifically sourced and cut for each bride with several progress fittings. This means you will truly be able to say that your wedding gown is unique Something to remember is that at DWB I do not copy other designers dresses. Any reputable dressmaker will abide by this. It is copyright and morally wrong. But, I can always use pictures of dresses for inspiration I don’t believe a couture dress should be rushed so a minimum of 6 months is required but I do prefer 8 months if possible. If you are planning a 2021 wedding, let me know and we can have a chat about your dream dress. It doesn’t hurt to explore the possibility of a custom couture dress! 07.01.2022 It has been so wonderful welcoming brides back to the studio over the last two weeks. Some were ongoing clients for fittings and others were first time visitors... who were trying on dresses with a few of these making a second appointment to try on again Unless you are 100% sure that a dress is the right dress for you, I don’t believe in pressuring anyone to make a decision on the spot. If you love a particular dress and it is one that can not be ordered again, I will hold that dress for two days so you can sleep on it and make a decision (and it is much appreciated when brides let me know what their decision is, even when it’s a no). I also allow photos and when it’s a bling bling dress I insist that you take a video of yourself so you can see how much it sparkles Choosing your wedding dress should be a special time whether it’s custom made or ready made. I have been doing this my entire adult life (longer if you count making doll clothes ) and I still absolutely love it. I’ve lost count of how many brides I have met and how many dresses I have made... which would be well over a thousand if I include the bridal houses I have worked for, but that’s what happens when you’ve been doing something for 37 years! 05.01.2022 Please keep in mind that veils are made to order. To keep prices down and reasonable we only keep a very small amount of samples on hand. Veils usually take between 2 and 6 weeks, depending on the style (eg beading or embroidery)
